Go to the hardware store and ask for a box of 'RootOut' (copper chloride) to kill roots in your sewer lines. Dig a few small holes at the base of the tree, pour it in and water well, sit back and wait a couple weeks or less - dead tree! RScott

You can drill five 1/4 inch diameter holes at the base of the tree and fill the holds with pure Roundup (use the 42% solution which cost about $30 for 32 ounces (1 Quart). This may take up to several weeks to kill. The problem you will have is that a dead (dry tree) is much more difficult to cut because the wood will dry. The best thing is to cut the tree down at the base and treat it with Roundup as indicated above. A cheaper way is to just cut the tree at the base and keep cutting any “shouts” that start growing out. This way the tree will die in about 18 months.

I feel your pain. I am trying to grow a massive yard with ornamental plants that need sunlight and my and my neighbor's pecan trees have grown very tall and now block the sunlight and my flowers won't grow right. Not to mention, the shade cast by the giant trees allow fungus to accumulate and blow up all over my plants. It's the worst place in the world to grow a flower... FLORIDA! You'd think in the "Sunshine State" I wouldn't have this problem, but you'd be terribly wrong lol. Trees are great shade if you want to cut down on your electric bill by them blocking the sun to your house here in the south. But if you want to grow a sun-hungry plant, make sure you get your trees' permission or you'll be like me running around moving plants between the shadows trying to suck up a little more light before autumn finally does my annuals in..... that and the day in and day out week to week to week endless nor'easters, el ninos, and whatever reason they can find to dump an inch to an inch and a half every friggin day. URGH! Why can't all this rain go somewhere needed like California? Anyway, Rain + Trees = environmental nightmare here in the Sunshine State of Florida. Hope you fare better with your view of the mountains!

Planted a mesquite tree? crazy ! you dont need to poison the tree, just the stump. Saw the dumb thing down, as soon as its cut, apply weed-b-gone concentrate to the outer ring (just inside the bark)of the freshly cut stump. Dont let the chemical run off the stump onto the ground, daub it on with a sponge or paint brush, that way you wont risk getting it into the ground water or harm anything else. Wear rubber gloves and glasses when handling concentrate.

If you kill it, you will then have an ugly dead tree blocking your view and it will be dangerous to boot --- likely to fall over and hit your house, car or people.
You need to cut down the tree and treat the stump with Round Up or brush killer. If you can't wait for the association and it's too big for you to cut yourself, hire an arbourist to take it down. Check the law, if it planted on the city easement, you cannot legally cut it down.

Ha. Well. Let's hope they don't figure it out.
Not sure how many animals, etc. you have roaming, so be careful. But you could use a few slow douses of Toilet Bowl Cleaner. If you want it to be quick...I think that would draw more attention. So maybe a little slower, over-time murder would be in order. (I used Sani Flush!! It took about 2 weeks to completely put it out of it's misery....and mine!!)

Cobalt Chloride will do the trick, that is what most stump remover are made of. Rock salt will do the job also, both act pretty fast. Keep this in mind, if your friends catch you, that stuff all tastes bad!
