Us 0zzy's always get called 'convicts' especially when the pommie cricketers come over, don't get me wrong, I ove all of the banter that goes on between us both.
But.... My family aren't related to any convicts, we came out here in 1966 so all of my blood is actually Pommie!
Isn't there something else you guys could call us 0zzy's other than convicts because it doesn't really insult us!

Maybe it's just the poms that call us convicts Buzzy!
Ask any Pommie cricket fan and he will agree to that.
ozzies is a name short for Australians.
I like to spell it the way it sounds with a 'z' not an 's'
as in your name Buzzy, it just wouldn't be the same spelled Bussie.
P.O.M.E is an acronym for Prisoner Of Mother England. An old term used by Both Australian and British people.
Pommie Bastard! is just a term of endearment really!
I love the Poms because I am of Pommie blood but born in ozz.
My dad was always called a Pommie B by his mates, he gave as good as he got and they all had a beer at the end of the day.

Have you done your tree? I am an Australian, and a descendant of a convict, and I am looking into my tree and have over 1,800 names listed. In fact I have several convicts in my tree. But I have a lot of family members both here in Australia and in the UK who are not convicts.
If you look into your tree you may find relatives who were deported to Australia, South Africa or the USA in the past.

OK, I'm getting more confused by the minute. First of all, how did the name 'Ozzies' come about? Then I also need to know what the heck 'pommies' are? As for the convict part, I know the origins of it all, but maybe I live under a rock, because I never hear anybody over here use that term in reference to Australians.
I must be leading some kind of sheltered life because some of this 'lingo' is puzzling.

I don't know for sure what you're talking about. If you're from Australia, then I would call you Australian. I've never heard of calling anyone a convict unless they actually were one.
