looks like they should be fine. Of course, you do NOT get fresh ripe tomatoes indoors in the winter without supplemental light of the same spectrum as natural sunlight. At least, not if you live up north.

Note that the "special crystals" are just those water absorbing crystals you can buy in a plant center. Here's the website for the product: http://www.crystals.us/
You can buy enough of these crystals to make a wheelbarrow full of expanded crystals for $12.99. Or a single pack that makes gallons of expanded crystals for $4.99. I suspect the kit contains a couple tablespoons of this stuff. Plus tomato seeds. Plus fertilizer. Plus a couple plastic bags. How many of these could *you* make for $19.99? Heh. What a country!!!

Should be safe.

But you don't need a $20 kit. If you don't have a garden, you can grow any indeterminate tomato from a garden centre in a container on your patio or balcony. They need full sun and a long growing season. If you live in a area that gets winter (Zone 8 or lower), it will not be warm or sunny enough in the winter to grow them --- there is NOT enough light through a window.

If you want to grow them indoors you will need an indoor light set up and will have to hand pollinate the flowers to get fruit.

I think they are safe to consume. Tomatoes usually get nutrients from the soil, and these get their nutrients from the special fertilizer.
