Who are your favorite Canucks? Past or present? You don't even have to be a Canucks fan! Mine is Trevor Linden. He works hard, is a good captain, and is respected by everyone.

Snoop, Messier stole the "C" from Linden. If he was so good, why were the Canucks so bad? Mike Keenan wasn't that good of a coach, and basically screwed Linden over.

My favorite would be Tony Tanti. The right winger was the best the Vancouver Canucks had during the 1980's--without him the club would probably have been the very worst team for many years.
The thing I like about him is that he represented Canada several times in World Juniors and World Championships (in this tournament he was always available during his Canuck days since his team was either out of the playoffs or eliminated in the first round).
He was Mr. Power Play for the Canucks--scoring 102 career goals with the man advantage. He was once with the Blackhawks but they gave him up for tough guy Curt Fraser of the Canucks in 1982-83. Good deal for the Canucks. The Blackhawks could have used Tanti had they been more patient with him. He played in only 3 games with the Hawks being before traded to Canucks. Perhaps having two superstar players of small stature (Denis Savard at 5'10" and Steve Larmer at 5'10") made the Hawks think they had too many small guys of excellent calibre. Tanti was listed at 5'9" and 180 pounds, small player even for back then.
He was selected to play in the 1984 NHL All-Star game but missed it with an injury--a game that would have produced about 25 or 30 goals had there been no injuries to key players. Some of the biggest stars missed the game--I think Jari Kurri, Bryan Trottier and Mike Bossy and some others missed the game.
Surprinsly, all these guys were there in the 1986 NHL All-Star game but the score was only 4-3. Probably the lowest score of an All-Star game ever considering the talent available. Tanti played on a line with snipers Denis Savard and Mark Messier and scored the first goal of the game.
Tanti was cut by Mike Keenan at the 1987 Canada Cup--not an easy cut considering Tanti had scored 41 goals in 77 games in 1986-87 and was considered one of the top goal scorers in the game at the time.
Tanti also broke several of Wayne Gretzky's junior records and thats no easy task.

Trevor Linden is a great pick. My favorite Vancouver Canuck is not a player; it's their former strength and conditioning coach Peter Twist. I credit him with getting me into the UHL. But if I had to choose a player, it'd be Pavel Bure, the Russian Rocket. Anyone remember that breakaway he had against Toronto in the '93 Conference Finals where he Blue Bayou'd the Leafs d-men and made Felix Potvin look like a beer leaguer? Great move! Or his breakaway in Boston in '99 where he dropped the puck into his skates then kicked it back to his stick and scored? He had great hands, and drove a Ferrari, very appropriate, I thought.

I am not a vancouver fan but i did watch a few games this past season i am on the east coast and a Buffalo Sabres fan so i cant really watch Vancouver games but when i was able to watch a couple of games i really seemed to have a liking for Henrik and Daniel Sedin those Swedish twins are some talented players and i think they will be with Vancouver for a long time because i think that those two guys will want to stay together and play with the same team together and one team if they went to Free Agency wouldnt be able to get both of them that is just in my opinion

Orland Kurtenbach, the teams very first star.
Pavel Bure is a great pick as a favourite Canuck as well.
But in Vancouver, I thought Stan Smyl was untouchable as Mr. Canuck

Paul Reinhart.
Wayne Gretzky referred to him as the toughest defenceman he ever played against. Two short years as a Canuck. But he has the highest PPG of any defenceman in Canuck history.

Lots of good answers here. My personal favorite was Cliff Ronning. I have always been a fan of the undersized hockey player and at 5'8", 170, he is one of the few who was smaller than myself. Despite his size, he was a tough little SOB and proved to everyone he was worth more than a 7th round draft pick.

Let's see here...I would go with Mark Messier. Yes, he didn't lead the team into the playoffs (but came really close his last season there), but he helped usher in the Markus Naslund/Brendan Morrison/Todd Bertuzzi era for the franchise.
