I recently acquired an ancient snowmobile engine and need to know how to mix the gas for it. It's a 2 sroke, two cylinder 1974 engine made by Bombardier. 310 cc I think. Is the gas & oil mix 32:1, 40:1, 16:1....? I tried 40:1 and it's not starting. Thanks!

I had a '76 Can-Am TN250T, with a 250cc single Rotax 2-cycle. The oil injection system crapped out so I burned the same premix I used in the Ski-doo's... 30:1. The bike ran better after that, actually.

40:1 should be a good place to start. Check the gas cap and around the tank for a decal or tag. Check for good spark by removing a spark plug and laying it on the cylinder head with the wire connected. Pull the engine over a few times and observe the plug for spark. Make sure the other plug wire is completely disconnected so it doesn't accidentally start. Have you had the carburetors cleaned? They may be all gummed up, and preventing it from running. Take the carbs to a Ski-Doo dealer and have them checked and cleaned.
Ski-Doo used Bombardier engines back then along with Rotax motors.

32:1
40:1 has less oil then required, so that wouldn't be the problem of it not starting.
Clean the carbs and check for spark.
You just "acquired" a 1974 snowmobile. The first thing you should do is remove the heads and check the cylinders condition.
It might feel like it has good compression and you might have even checked it, but 2 strokes can give false compression readings.
