Am thinking about calling in sick to work on sat.I also have enough pto saved up to call in sick for that day.The boss has the day off that day and there are enough people to cover my absence. So is it okay to text(it's the easiest way to contact him) my boss cell and tell him that I wont be in that day? Am a full-timer in California.

Do what is right, not what other people do.

Isn't the point of PTO that you can use it however you want-- sick or personal? Why lie, only to risk being found out? Say that you need the day off for personal reasons (if your PTO policy really is a PTO policy), tell him that there are people to cover your work. Do it in advance.

Yes-- should be able to predict what day you are gona be sick. Give them atleast a three days notice-- that day your gona have the sniffles... Yes-- you are telling a lie. Subject to not being able to trust you and --- should be plenty of room in the unemployment line. Get their early to get a good seat.... Don't do it ---OK... It is your day to be their---show up...

I don't know what your policies are regarding sick days vs personal time off/vacation but announcing you are going to be sick 5 days ahead of time is kind of suspicous.

Then you would be lying and also stealing from the company if you get paid for sick days.
