I don't think that the decision is or is not moral b/c it does not play into what we normally define as morality. While some think of abortion as "killing a fetus" and killing is wrong therefore abortion is wrong, we have never in this country treated a fetus like a person in any other context. When a woman has an unintended miscarriage, do we have a funeral? Do we send flowers? Do we put an announcement in the paper? No, because we don't regard a fetus as a "human" in most ways. I think telling someone else that they have to have a baby they don't want b/c we want to punish them for what we think is their sexual promiscuity is unconscionable. My nephews came into this world to two parents who so very wanted to have a baby. We all were excited about the pregnancy they wanted, and looked forward to welcoming the babies into this world. Being a parent is tough but these kids had two adults who were totally into being there. They read to their kids, exercised patience and kindness and have just been wonderful parents. I wish every kid could be born into the world under such terrific circumstances and I am comfortable that that is a morally defensible position.

Ah, a much BETTER question than "should abortion be illegal."

I do, simply because I believe an embryo is NOT a person (despite what those billboards all tell me to think), but a ball of cells that has the potential to develop (if gestated properly) into a human life. It is not the intentional taking of a human life. It is a medical procedure, sometimes necessary, that has the effect of reducing medical costs and emotional costs on a person, saving human resources, and avoiding unwanted children (that may be neglected, abused, etc.)
