I wish they had waited until we could evaluate how well the surge is working before they quit.

Sunnis make up some 80 % of Muslims world wide while the Shias only 20 %.Saudia Arabia is Sunni but a very militant type called Wahhabism.

Iraq is 60 % Shia while Iran is mostly Shia .

Many experts believe that the Saudi Wahhabi Sunnis told the Iraqi Sunnis to quit the government and isolate the Shia(and Christian Kurds) which will merely isolate the Iraqi government even more and drive it closer to Iran and their fellow Shia .

To support this theory ,the US is now fully arming the Sunnis ( against the wishes of the Shia dominated Iraqi government)under the quise that the Sunni are fighting al qaida but in fact their support of the Sunnis is that secretely the US administration has come to the obvious conclusion that the Iraqi government is NOT going to work and that as it disintegrates it is in the US interests to be on the SUNNI side (meaning the side of Saudi Arabia and the all powerful Wahhabi Sunni clerics).

This will leave Iran and the Iraqi Shia isolated against a Sunni world.

The answer to "what now" . At this point the US knows it can go either way but more probably it will be the collapse of the government and a full out and out civil war .

Whatever happens the US is simply positioning itself for the best advantage in either scenario.

wait till 2009! by then iraq will be secure! give peace some time to work! - says bush.

meanwhile, the contract beneficiaries are raking it in, the iraqi people and american soldiers will continue to perish, with no stable government to speak of in sight. i.e. more of the same.

god bless america.

There will be peace in Iraq if the Sunnis call it quits.

I believe our military should call it quits also and go on vacation for at least a month.
