Well, a Gibson guitar has more powerful, loud rock sound, and a Fender has less. Also, Fender has a slimmer body and Gibson is fatter.

okay, well I'll start with Gibsons,
1) Generally very expensive, high end guitars, start at about 700 dollars up to 3000 dollars factory guitars.
2) There are three main Gibson makes, (a) Gibson Les Paul (ie Jimmy Page, Slash, (b) Gibson SG (Angus Young and Jack Black in School of Rock), and (c) Flying V (the one in the shape of a "V" upside down!
3) Gibson Les Pauls are very heavy, and expensive, they have wide necks and a fat chunky "quacky" tone, they are very balanced, and the more you pay the better.
4) Gibson SG's have more bite, are slightly lighter than les pauls but are neck heavy and less balanced.
5) Flying V's have less of a harsh tone than the previous guitars and is the most inconvenient for using sitting down, not a decent investment in my mind.
Now Fenders:
1) Fender have two main designs, the (a) stratocaster (ie Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler) and, (b) telecaster guitars (ie Matthew Bellamy, Joe Strummer, Syd Barrett, Various Country guitarists)
2) Strats have a real thin neck with nice thin tone, they are your best bet, very versatile and visually attractive, and beautiful to play.
3) Teles have slightly wider necks with a more conventional body style, they are perfect for country guitar and blues as they have a very "twangy" sound.
4) You can get Fender models made in Mexico or the States new currently, the latter being of much better quality, but far more expensive.
5) Fender also have a line of guitars made for the "grungers"! Fender Mustangs, Fender Jaguars and Fender Jagstangs, the Jazzmaster is perfect for Jazz, (obviously!)
Bottom Line: Both are great make of guitars, in my opinion if you have your heart set on a gibson style of guitar buy a decent Japanese copy instead and pay half the price, but don't buy epiphone.
Hope that helped!

Fenders are usually strattocaster style(the kind Stevie Ray Vaugn plays) and Gibsons are usually Les-Paul style(the kind heavy metal rock stars usually play) although Gibson makes other types of guitars as well. Les-Paul's have a stronger sound while strattocasters have a thinner sound but more variety of sounds they can produce and typically have vibrato(whammy) bars. Both companies are no longer the original and have been bought out a long time ago by larger parent companies.

For simplicity's sake, i circulate to income the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul (each and each organisation's maximum standard sort). of direction there are ameliorations interior of each and each sort, yet i'm going to stay with generalizations. The Les Paul is a thicker, heavier guitar. this implies some issues: it is going to overwhelm your shoulder in case you play status up for an prolonged volume of time; in terms of sound, the LP has a extra dense, "chunkier" sound... Its extra of a stressful rock guitar. The LP additionally has a fused neck joint (as antagonistic to the screw on Stratocaster neck), which, blended with the density, provides you with extra sustain. The stratocaster is a extra diverse guitar and could sound good in incredibly plenty any type (even Iron Maiden play strictly fender strats). The strat, despite if, won't get as plenty sustain or tone because of the fact the LP. another element to evaluate is that the strat has 21 frets and a double-decrease physique (meaning much less complicated accessibility to the better frets) collectively as the LP has 22 frets and a single-decrease physique which makes enjoying the extreme notes slightly extra problematic. I own the two and picture they are the two super of their own techniques. i'd say to circulate to a music keep and take a verify out out some fashions. That way you will get to hearken to them the two and decide for your self. wish this facilitates.
