Hi,
Well, what's wrong with being a nerd? Nerds are smart, dedicated, loyal, and kind. Often, they're main fault is that they're unable to see these positives. So, instead of embracing their talents, they try to push them aside in the name of "fitting in."
That said, seeking acceptance is a perfectly normal goal, especially for an eighth grader. There are ways to make friends without changing your personality or style. Consider starting a club that focuses on an activity you enjoy. Do your best to be open, friendly, and accepting of others, and you're bound to make friends who like you for who you are.
Good luck at your new school!
Mike

Look kid, I've been fat my whole life. I mean FAT. And it took a long time to get where I am. In life I mean, not my waiste size. lol. I'm serious though. Until I was in the 5th or 6th grade I really didn't talk to anyone. Nobody realy made fun of me though cause I'd always try to fight them. Which is exactly what you shouldn't do. That was so not the way to make friends. Anyway around jr high I was like "who cares", you know. I developed a sense of humor and seeing people laugh because of me and not at me led to a huge sense of confidence. By the time I got out of jr high I was the stuff. And high school, forget about it man, I was really the stuff. I was the only fat kid who really had a chance at running for "Mr. High School". I left the name out for anonimity. Anyway you really have to try to be confident. And I know it's tough, if peopel don't laugh at a joke I feel like it's cause I'm fat. Or if I smile at a woman and she averts her eyes I feel that it's due to my weight, even though it's probably not. Any way, now I'm engaged to a hot ex-bartender and have 2 kids. And I still weigh 290 pounds and love it. Sorry to make this so long-winded but I feel for people who feel like us. Everything will be fine, I promise. You just really have to try to be confident and other people will see that. I practiced at it like I was an actor and it really paid off. I wish you luck through these next couple of years but hey, new school, new person. Just make sure your with the right crowd. Remember this while your scouting a new group of friends, Misery Loves Company

None of this will matter in the long run, so don't put too much effort into being with the "in crowd." Most of the popular people in my high school turned out to be losers, while most of the nerds I knew are doing well professionally and personally. Just make sure you find nice people and work hard so that you can do well in school. Good luck,

Be yourself, who cares what other people think.Popular isn't everything. In the real world popular doesn't mean a thing. Worry about good grades.I wish I could go back in time.

Wearing glasses doesn't make you nerdy if you have a cool set of frames. Try cat like or something that compliments your face shape.

aw gee you're 13. don't worry about it, most people change so much during their teenage years. Just go out there and talk to more people, meet people, hang out more, stay out of the house as much as possible. =]
