I plan to be near here next month, and thought it would be interesting to drive through, but I'm curious to know if this city is safe to visit. I know residents don't trust outsiders.

Thanks for any advice!

I went through Colorado City in July. I stopped and ate and gassed up. No problems at all. I wouldn't ask a lot of questions about poligamy though.

It's not really a city it's a just a collection of a bunch of buildings ,some of which resemble unfinished barracks or dormitories , that straddle a highway along the Arizona Strip .Actually it's a pair of towns that straddle the AZ/UT state-line ; Hilldale UT & Colorado City AZ
The Arizona Strip is classified as frontier which means that it contains less than 6 people per square mile. That's a lot of real estate to lose a person in especially considering that cell phones don't work in much of it.
In another lifetime I used drive through there once a week for about 2 years and I never stopped in for a visit. I paid attenention to the reduced speed signs coming into town and the resume speed signs leaving town.
and that was it . I have that native New Yorker personality that just gets me in trouble in small towns so I don't stop in them.

According to "Under the Banner of Heaven," a book on Mormon fundamentalists, outsiders aren't exactly encouraged to poke around. Don't know how true that is now, a few years after the book's publication, but I would at least tread lightly. I drove through it some years ago without incident, so it's not like anyone will be waiting at the town line.

It's like being in a foreign country, much like the Indian reservations. It is the one little piece of the world where the mormons have the upper hand and will use that upper hand.

i actually like the belief! your guy or woman inner maximum little island. Does that recommend that the atheists on YA could then have a existence, so does not experience the could desire to spend all their time here bashing and trolling? that could for specific be great! not meant for mature atheists, yet then, we don't get lots of them around here besides.
