It's hard to explain, but I have had the feeling for a long time that I'm not using my time to the best of my ability. I'm just wasting the days away looking striving towards something in the future, yet when 'the future' arrives all I do is waste time looking towards something else.
My situation is I have 2 months of freedom- I have a house, car, money. I can do (within reason) whatever I want. Yet all I do is waste my days on trivial things like shopping or housework. It's not a case of I-could-die-tomorrow-so-should... more like this feeling... is this what life is? I've wasted so much time and energy on fruitless exercises and why do I continue to do so?

Sorry if this is a bit confusing, but I need to work this out before I can sleep and there's probably no-one I know awake who I can talk this through with. It'd be interesting to hear anyone elses thoughts, whatever they are! Thanks.

I'm a certified life coach, and I can say absolutely that MOST people feel like this from time to time, and some feel like this all the time. If you want to chat, you can email me, OK?

I most sincerely request you google The Landmark Education Corporation, and do their three day weekend called The Forum. It Will open you up to the possibilities about who you are for yourself and the planet from your deepest level. IT is the ontological study of being human. We we examined all aspects of the qualities of being.

There were 13 topics and many discussions with around 100 people who registered. If you are in the NYC area, Their HQ is on W. 33rd Street. It is done internationally in many places. It is some of the most powerful stuff going and is Not a cult: just great wisdom in laymen's terms to become successful and self expressed and in motion-action and excited about what you are up to in life while helping others along the way.

I did it twice, and lot other other seminars, started an arts group on LI ( 3hich I actually left many years ago) which is still doing bookstore and cafe events, finishing an new CD, help out people all over the place, and I'm amazed I'm still here to talk about it. It is highly individualized, because the topics bring up our own experienced opinion, which to some degree parallel others, and yet are unique to ourselves.

There are free 3 1/2 hour intros with no strings attached. If you attend one, I suggest strongly one which is a special event introduction only... to the Forum led by a seminar leader or forum leader.

LOL

PS: The questions you posed means you are up to this right now. The actress Shirley McClain, after having amassed millions, and all the fame one could muster, suddenly asked the same thing and took time out to learn Buddhism. This is a huge shortcut to enlightnement. Good luck!

We get the most fulfillment out of life through helping others, so my suggestion to you would be to find something you can do that helps others, like volunteering at a soup kitchen, giving clothes to the salvation army, help habitat for humanity or travel overseas((peace-corp). Our ability to transform our lives by transforming the lives of others is within our reach so stop feeling sorry for yourself and wallowing in self pity, stand up, walk out the door and see who's life you can change today!

Well, I'm only 13, but I face a situation sort of like yours, and it was brought to my attention by one of our fellow answerers, believe it or not. I want to be an actress/ singer, and I have had so many opportunities to show the public how I sing. But I have always let other people take the spotlight. There was a karaoke night at the beach... that I didnt participate in. I had a school play and almost landed a big part... but I didnt go to call backs. Why am I so lazy when it comes to my wanted career?

I really don't have an answer to ur question but I find myself wondering is this what life is all about. I know that we are here for a reason and we just have to ask God what that reason is and sooner or later we will know. Until then I suppose we just help as many people as we can along the way and try to do things that are meaningful.

I know exactly how you feel, I feel what you feel, only I'm not where you are physically yet. That is I am at the point of choosing my major, my career, my life, who am I? What am I doing? Why?
I get to the point of where you are mentally. Okay, once I'm there, then what? And why?
I think the question I just asked, almost simultaneously to yours, is somewhat tied into it: How can anyone enjoy while others suffer?
I believe it has to do with the system, and why we do what we do, and whether there is something better. In my gut I feel there is, but what? I'm just glad I found someone similar.

It sounds like you are experiencing the call, everyone feels it differently. That nagging feeling of "is this all there is" & "I'm wasting time" or even "There is something more I should to". For me, it was the call that lead me on an incredible journey of discovery of the world, myself, & God. Different people answer in different ways, but the answer as to how to proceed is usually found in ceasing outside activity for awhile & just listening to that feeling. After awhile you will find your direction. Good luck, you are starting on the path that few travel but has more rewards than you can ever imagine.

It is odd, but I had two friends in the same situation, for different reasons.

The first friend felt he was wasting his time. He looked inside himself, something not easy to do. He learned that he lived as if he were to live forever, so he did not make his time count. It took quite the reassessment of his life.

The second friend also felt he was wasting his time. His discovery was very different. He was usually quite busy, and the nagging feeling was his body telling him that he needed rest, to do nothing for a while. After an effort to rest, he did rest, and could look objectively at his life.

Hope that helps.

Every once in awhile i feel that way. I even talk to some people, they said they even feel that way sometimes. That's life. Everyday we do the same things. Go out and do some things to keep your mind off of it for awhile. Every little bit helps. Take on a few hobbies.

I get this feeling all the time! The best you can do is set a goal and try to achieve it--alot of life is wasted time--try to enjoy what you can and always try to do your best at whatever you do!!

Sounds to me like you're trying to "wake up" your mind. The world has become sleepy with apathy, we need a flood of awareness. Go with your gut instincts, see things as they really are and then make your decisions. Decide what's right for you.
