There is no projected end in either Greek nor Roman mythology.
The only parallel are actually the Jewish and Christian prophecies about the end of the world.

I think that the collector/writer of the Edda, who wrote in Christian times, was influenced by those, and/or recent or contemporary (to his time) poems, rather than a genuine, old Germanic prophecy of the world's end.

There was no end of the world. But in classical mythology the world has ages, and they come to an end:
