If you don't like what someone has to say why block them or report them when all you need to do is give them a thumbs down? are people to afraid to hear other's opinions that don't agree with theirs? how is it that people that can claim to be so open minded about things can close their minds to opposing views?

first off what religious police???? that comment made no sense what so ever but rock on with your bad self.
Secon Jake by blocking a person for expressing how they feel and telling them that they shouldn't feel or react a certain way is just the same as the people your telling to accept homosexual telling you how wrong they are and such so your "fighting" hatred with cowardace why not come out with reasons not to react a certain way and explain how and why you feel something and by blocking a user you don't allow them access to questions that you post that they may acctually have answers to that even you might find enlightening.

Also I find it amazing how people who admittadly have me blocked because of statements are so quick to jump on a question that I've asked..... Do you see a double standard, I think I do.

I am with you on that! People ask questions then when they get an answer they don't like or agree with they report them or start with the name calling. I believe people should have the freedom to speak what is on their mind and express their opinions and views and others should respect that, It does not mean youhave to agree with them, just respect their ideas.

lol, because for most people, an opposing view point is Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. They don't want their world view monkeyed with by the facts or some other viewpoint.
"Viewpoint" - that's an interesting concept. Most people don't seem to realize that someone standing on the south side of the mountain is going to see an entirely different mountain than the person standing on the north side of the same mountain. People everywhere are small that way. When your perception is small your viewpoint stays small and that usually means that your mind stays small.
See big, folks. Even if the other person is a moron they might have seen something where they're standing that can change your life. And you're sure as hell not going to grow intellectually if you put your fingers in your ears and go nanananananan while someone is giving an opposing view.
Besides, it might be funny as hell.
And, FOR GOD'S SAKE, quit letting every little thing said by somebody OFFEND YOU. Get the chip's off your shoulders and the crap out of your ears and listen.

You're right -- if you want to put questions out there, you need to be prepared to hear the good, the bad and the ugly. If you're really 'open-minded' and you read the answers you get, you might even find that someone will have an idea you never even thought of. On the other hand, some people are particularly and unnecessarily cruel; I believe ignoring those answers is the best way to deal with them. I have to admit, I don't enjoy seeing the really twisted and evil stuff that comes through here from time-to-time, but I suppose the people who feel the need to express themselves by trying to 'shock and repulse' have a right to do that if they wish. I, on the other hand, have a right to just ignore them and not to entertain them by having any response.

some people feel this real need to create problems just because they do not agree with th eopinions of others. So reporting or blocking fits their need for shutting down the offending party.
Personally I will give someone a thumbs down for saying something that is incorrect or not factual. But even if I disagree with an opinion, as long as they have solid facts to support their opinion, I wont even give them a thumbs down. On the other hand, when someone expresses themselves in a derogatory or prejudicial manner thus creating an environment where an open exchange of thoughts and ideas cannot take place, I will report the person for abuse. This is not a place for anyone to be putting others down for their race, religion, or other characteristics. It is instead a place to learn and understand and accept.

Being open minded does not mean that you have to agree with what people say. For some things I do give a thumbs down, but for some things, a thumbs down is not enough. Those are the ones I report.

Some times people get tired of being attacked with the same old bigoted, hate-filled material over and over again.
People can have whatever opinion or belief they want. When their air such things in a PUBLIC FORUM, they need to accept the consequences. With Yahoo's current lack of security, one must report violations of the TOS.
Good luck!

I agree... I got reported for an answer that I gave.. It was a nice answer.. just did not agree with the askers point of view.
It is a childish way of responding.. and it is a violation of the community guidelines...

Good question. Blocking and reporting only leads to the vicious cycle of blocking and reporting. It's time to break the cycle and just ignore people who disagree with you. By kicking them off, blocking, and reporting, you only fuel the flames of hatred.
Ignore morons and they will just fade away.

I will block anyone who makes a comment that I feel is unnecessarily rude or aimed at harming another individual. One in particular sticks out:
why the same reason gays think they have the right to force us to know about their lifestyle, because of freedom of speech. It's not a big deal if you don't mind the moral implications of such immoral acts. If I were gay or Bi I a) wouldn't go around telling people cause it's none of their buisness b) have killed myself long ago
This is endangerment of anyone who is considering suicide due to people who claim their life is immoral. So I felt I must do my part to help cease the spread of this kind of thing.
