do you need to have a resume when you're looking for an agent and when you're auditioning for movies, shows, and etc?

Yes, unless you're an infant or a very small child you absolutely need a resume. Your resume shows your experience in theatre, film, TV & commercials (commercials are actually not generally listed, you provide a list separately upon request). It also shows your training and any special skills you have. The agent looks at your resume (and cover letter and personal 'industry' referals) to see if you might make them any money. If they think so, they'll cal you in for a meeting. If you are taken on as a client, they send your photo and resume out to casting directors who are casting projects and have a need for someone with your basic physical description and if they think you might work then an audition appointment will be made and you'll go meet the casting director (bringing with you additional headshots & resumes) etc..... so again, YES you need resumes :-)

You can't get auditions for movies without an agent. You can't get an agent without a resume. You can't go from nothing, and no experience, to TV. Actors who have spent years acting professionally have to work hard to get that far. Too many people on here think that you can just see an ad in the paper, go audition, and get famous. You have to work for it.
