1. I would have either replaced the income tax with a consumer tax, or if that was not politically feasible, I would have removed the mortgage deduction in order to cool off the overheating housing sector (Economist magazine has been warning us for two+ years about this). I would have sustituted the mortgage deduction with an alternative fuels and energy sources deduction.
2. I would have appointed members of the opposition party into a couple of key cabinet positions post 9/11, in order to show a united front and make sure the country remained focused.
3. I would have seperated the FBI's criminal investigations sections from the intelligence and counter terror sections, merged them with NCTC, and made them the lead agency for security, rather than the bloated joke that is DHS.

I would not have let Al Qaeda slip away from us in Afghanistan.
And.. even if I did, I would not have given up because they went into Pakistan, and then made excuses like "we cant go after them in Pakistan, we just can't"
Our terrorist enemies have a Safe Haven in Pakistan.
Bin Laden is in Pakistan (yes, he is most likely alive).
The next wave of attacks against us are being planned at one of the many terrorist training camps in Pakistan.
At this time in our history what is more important than the war against terror ? It is the one great issue that bush will be judged by.
Saying that we cant bring up Iraq when we talk about bush is like saying we can't talk about the Civil War when we talk about Lincoln.
bush gave us the bait and switch with Iraq. He did not know how to handle the difficult issues regarding Pakistan so he went to Iraq instead.

I would not have gone in and gutted the budget surplus just so my cronies could have their T bills back. I would have gone over the budget with an accountant like in the movie Dave and cut the real waste from the budget. I would have invested the money I saved in scientific investigation of the hordes of things we need to modernize, particularly alternative energy sources and stem cell research. I would have helped countries whether or not they supported abortion. I would have sent massive forces into Sudan and settled the Janjaweed once and for all. I would have completely revamped the educational system into two paths - academic and technical - so that we were no longer wasting money on people who neither care about nor need any academics beyond the basics.

Bush didn't accomplish a single major domestic policy initiative in his first six and a half years (and four of those were with a completely friendly congress, and six of those years were with a friendly house and a split Senate). After the passage of his education plan (the No Child program), can anyone name one major domestic policy change that Bush has pushed for and instituted: social security- nope, crime- nope, transportation- nope, health care- nope, immigration- nope, anything else- nope.
Bush is the most reactive President in the history, he has been unable to pass a single major initiative that he planned through Congress. I would have tried in my first six and half years to do something before a disaster hit. I don't hate Bush, but name something that he has planned, completed, and gotten passed. He's responded to issues, but has not taken any initiative on his own and shouldered the political weight.
We can judge him by a lot of different standards: success or failure, good or bad, legal or illegal. Bush's reaction-only presidency might have been successful or good; that's for you to decide.

The Iraq invasion is the defining issue of his presidency and what he will be remembered for in years to come, so it's hard to leave that on the table. However, if I couldn't reverse his invasion of a country that was no threat to the U.S. or the rest of the world, I would simply reverse every other decision he has made. The list of vile things that this president has done is so long that I don't have the patience or the time to list them.

How many trillions of tax payers dollars do we waste in Iraq, before its considered enough.
How many schools could have been built, how many bridges could have been fixed, how many jobs could have been created.
Look at the Money this President and Congress are flushing down the toilet. Were not talking thousands, or billions, we are talking TRILLIONS.
Wake up people before its too late. This president is mortgaging our future away. And for what?
The only ones this war is good for is Bush, Cheney and his buddies. How does it benefit you and me? It doesn't , I dont care what you say. I'm more scared of this corrupt administration, then I am of some terrorist.

if you have paid any attention to the way he has trampled on the Constitution you would understand, but your blind loyalty keeps you from seeing that he has determined that he is the elected dictator and has said that he will enforce laws that have not been created by Congess and ignored all those he doesn't like...that is a dictator...and undermines the rule of law. I would normally include a link to this info, but it's all over the place and not just in wacko blogs...if you do not understand and are intelligent enough to research this, its easy enough to find facts....but I'm sure you don't have the same level of loyalty to the Constitution as you do your party and your man.
Please list his accomplishments.....

I probably would have appointed qualified people for my cabinet and other key positions. Dubya just picked his buddies and people he knew from Texas politics.
I think I would have taken seriously the CIA report that said "Osama determined to strike in the U.S." and I would have made sure that my intelligence services were working with each other, not against each other.
I would have put enough troops in Afghanistan to catch Osama, and I would have made sure that neither the Taliban nor Al Qaeda could have regrouped.
I would have signed the Kyoto protocols and directed this country to conserve energy, develop renewable energy, and unite to slow or reverse global warming.
I would have proposed a viable solution for saving Social Security, developed a practical plan to provide health care to every citizen, and devoted resources to improve the aging infrastructure in this country.
My problems with Bush are that he's closed-minded, simplistic, and stubborn. A president needs to consider all options, recognize the complexity of the issues, and change when the situation calls for it.
