I was actively recruited by Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas in the summer of 2005. I applied and was accepted. They knew that I was very disabled and needed to have a private room on the bottom floor. I was given a room on the second floor of the dorm, which didn't have an elevator. I was walking up and down stairs multiple times a day for several weeks until the college finally found me a room on the bottom floor. During this time I developed a sore from walking so much, and it ended up getting massively infected. I had to drop out of the college during my second semester there. I filled out the paperwork to get medical leave, and had thought I received it. I was just informed a couple of weeks ago I never received medical leave. After a year and a half of missing school and undergoing multiple surgeries and I.V. antibiotics because of the sore I developed because of Lyon's lack of ADA compliance, I would think I have a case. However, I can't find a lawyer? Who can help me?

I am not sure you can do much..you kept living there--even though you told them you needed a lower floor. Kinda your loss. You never actively pursued justice before moving. Sorry.

You should be able to find a personal injury attorney who will take your case on contingency, just make sure you have documentation showing everything. If you do, it looks to me like you have a pretty solid case.
You can find a lawyer in the yellow pages, or by calling the Bar Association in your area.

I can't imagine a lawyer turning you down, if he handles personal injury. Try the local bar association for recommendations. If the town is too small to have one, call the state bar association.

there are attorneys out there who want your case.

probably all of them will want a percentage of the settlement and not a small one either.

how you tell a good attorney from one who is only good at selling to you is something I haven't mastered [and hope to never need to know].

Since this happened in Arkansas [whacky thought??] in addition to the usual sources of attorneys try dropping a personal letter to Hiliary Clinton c/o her US Senate office in Washington. I bet she's still connected to some law firms back in Arkansas and probably can give you a referral !!

[And ask your congressman and senators for referrals as well. Most of them are likely lawyers and know plenty of sharks who'd want your case.]

Best advice is to ask a local attorney. Most will NOT charge for a first visit.
Here are some great city-specific legal directories to help you find one:
