they only did that in the movie just for the viewer's sake, but Alexander really did not do anything stupid like that. have you read anything about a great leader charging into something like an elephant, all alone? of course not... that's why it was just in the movie. and by the way don't believe everything you see in the movie, they tend to exaggerate the facts.

I never saw the movie and know nothing about his military using elephants--it may be. But I do know that Hannibal, the Carthaginian military leader, is well known for his leading war elephants during the Second Punic War, from Iberia over the Pyrenees and the Alps into Italy! His life span from 247 BC to 183 BC, so could well have learned from accounts of Alexander's--if he did use war elephants.
