Help! my plec has really long poo!?

Question

I have a community tank with several other fish including amnother plec but my new one I've had for about 3 weeks has really really long poo only seeming to break off when another fish moves through it or it snags on a rock. none of the other fish have ever done a poo nearly as long as this.

I give them alternately catfish pellets and algae wafers. thay also have driftwood they love. can you tell me the best way to give them cucumber ect without making a mess of the tank (if possible).

That is perfectly normal. Plecos are notoriously dirty. Unfortunately, some cucumber isn't going to help. If you think about it, all Plecos do all day is eat plant matter, giving them a little more plant matter won't fix his poop. If you want to feed them cucumber anyway (my fish love it), peel a portion of the cucumber, cut off a slice or 2, and drop it in the tank. Without the skin of the cucumber, they will eat the entire slice and only leave the seeds which are easy to vacuum out.

That's very normal for plecos. Give hime some foods other than just algae or algae tablets, though. Many like a piece of driftwood to scrape their mouths against, and most will eat slices of cucumber or zucchini if it's frozen or blanched a few minutes first to soften them. This helps add some fiber to their diets.

Get a gravel vaccuum and a plastic bucket. It's a long hose with a tube on the end. You can use it as a siphon to clean the poo out of the tank.

quite normal. Means he/she is doing their job and eating quite a bit. Time to go get some Algae Wafers for them from your LFS because you will want them to stay healthy.

lol, I watch my plec and sometimes I laugh cause the poop won't break off it ad is sooo long =)
