Supppose you are a commander in the field. You have Osama Bin Laden surrounded. Your officers tell you that you can capture him or kill him right away, with equal risk to your troops. You have spoken to the Pentagon and they leave it up to you.

What do you do? Capture of kill?

Capture him, once I get the media morons out of the way. Not going to make a martar out of him.

Capture him and give him a fair trial just as was done to Saddam and the Nazi hierarchy.

Killing is too easy and probably too good for him. Not only that, word would get out that he had been murdered by the military possibly causing more chaos. As satisfying as that might be for the moment, it probably isn't as politically useful in the long run as a fair trial.

OSama Bin weighted down hated united statesa. as quickly as he found out we've been imparting Iraq with weapons and armament in the 80s. He became pissed that we could do one in all those concern. basically he became meant to be receiving palms from the U. S. governement.

A very similar situation actually took place - the call went to the president and he was too busy playing golf at the time. By the time he finished his game, Osama and his henchmen had slipped away. On another similar occasion, they were told to stand down because Osama was in the presence of some Saudi royalty and any collateral injury or death to these dirt bags was apparently unacceptable.
The President was Bill Clinton on both occasions.

In answer to your question, I would call in an airstrike that would make Shock and Awe look like a walk in the park. Risking any of my troops to try and capture this psycho wouldn't even cross my mind.

Kill. He's gotten away too many times. Why take another chance of letting him go?

But realistically, the top brass would order you to take him alive if possible. Too many propaganda points to be gained by parading him in front of the TV cameras. Besides, if he was killed, you could never convince all the muslim fanatics he is dead. If he's in custody, you've got proof.

Let him go. Osama bin Laden is so early 2000's; Iraq is where the big threat is now!

Don W. (up above) hahahaha!

If it's safe to capture him I would do that before killing him. I think that it would serve our best interests to keep him alive in captivity for as long as we can.

Capture. Death is too easy. Plus he has valuable info that we could use to advance to war
