In the UK legally it's 14, but this also depends on how long you leave them. If a child is very sensible then he or she could be left for 10 minutes while you nipped to the local shop.
14 is also the legal minimun age for babysitters.
I wouldn't go away over night and leave any of my children alone until they were 18.

Contrary to popular belief there is no age at which you can legally leave a child unattended, provided they are in a safe environment, if you leave a child in an unsafe environment or they are at risk because they are not really old enough mentally and physically to look after themselves you could be prosecuted for leaving a child at risk of danger.
The law states that a person cannot be responsible for another until they are 16.

In the UK it is a very odd and complicated thing,,,,If you leave you children whatever their ages up to the age of 16 their is no law that you could be prosecuted for,,however if they came into any harm you would be prosecuted for either abandonment or neglect....I only know as I asked our local social services about this some time ago about my neighbours.....only if the children hurt themselves of had any kind of accident would the parent/ guardian be in infringement of the law

Depending on your state as it may vary, you can leave your child alone at home if one child is 12 years of age or older. You cannot leave them there over night and i believe there is a time restriction but I'm not sure what it is.

in the UK it is 14, but you must be sure that your children will be safe whist u are out of the house.. as a mother i never leave my 12 year old for more than 10 Min's while i pop to corner shop. but as long as your child knows all the rules, then it is up to u as long as they are over 14

Your question can't really be answered specifically as it depends on the state you live in - and the children's general responsibility level.
