You know, unless you're really in love with that pepper tree, I'd suggest pulling it out by the roots. Those are insanely invasive and nothing will grow around it (the "peppers" it sheds are acidic and kill anything in the soil around it). Once established, they take over whole yards and they develop shoots from the outlying roots. The roots also will undermine sidewalks and foundations within 20 feet of the tree.

They also naturally grow crooked. No amount of straightening you do now will ever stop it from it's naturally twisty growth.

not here. What I did for my apple tree was to hang out a 5 gal bucket filled with water or rocks on the side that I wanted to draw the tree to....and left it there----creating a constant pull on the tree in that direction. I also cut off branches on the "heavy side"- the way it was leaning.
5 gal of water is about 50lbs. So that is pulling the tree over 24/7. My trunk is about8" so you won't need as much weight....or leverage it out very far. It will take a year or two. of pulling.

The tree trainer is a modified version of a 2x4 and string to pull a crook out of the middle of the tree..

If yours is bent at the ground level leaning the wrong way, it won't work. You either need poles pushing the over and/or a weight holding it over.
