I am proud of the Union Flag.
I am Welsh AND British and happy to fly both . Those Welsh people who say they only feel proud of the Welsh flag do not speak for me or for all of Wales.
Plenty of my family members fought under the Union Flag in two word wars (some died) and as we are not a family of Welsh speakers or Nationalists then I guess I don't feel as much patriotism towards the Welsh flag as I do towards the Union Flag, as to me the Union flag represents the whole of the UK.
My other half is English and our son is half English and Half Welsh so the Union flag represents us as a family far more than the Welsh flag does.
I think British people are made to feel ashamed of the Union Flag and they should not. Everyone who wants to be proud of it should be allowed to fly it and fly it with pride! Long live the red, white and blue.

First of all, for such a patriot, you should know that it's the Union Flag, not the Union Jack - it's only called the latter when it's flown on a ship. But you knew that didn't you?
Razor Jim, the Union Flag as it exists today was invented just about 200 hundred years ago - not "so many centuries". Stevie, the fact that there's no sports team called Great Britain should tell you something about the wonderful union.
Secondly, they have in common that they're both also called "The Butcher's Apron" throughout the world, in light of the ethnic slaughters that were carried out under their shadow. Amos, to millions of people around the world, the American flag means imperialism not freedom and they don't distinguish between either flag in that matter - or haven't you wandered away from Fox News yet?
The reason why Americans love their flag is that they're brainwashed and forced to do so. It's drummed into kids' heads every morning at school, it's flown every day on every public building and every public green space, some TV channels fly a little stars'n'sripes in the corner of the screen, and if you criticise it you're threatened violently and can even end up geting beat up and/or spending a night in jail. Hey wasn't Nazi Germany like that?

I don't mind the Union Jack at any competition that the UK competes at as the UK but I prefer the cross of St George when England compete, if you look at old film of the 1966 world cup final most of the flags were Union Jacks, but I think we are all getting our own national identities back ie English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish I am proud to fly my country's flag be it the cross of St George or the Union Jack

2 reasons.
1. The Americans have only ever had that one flag...with minor alterations. The Union flag is an amalgam of several flags that are still current and have meaning.
2. The American flag has never been hijacked by racist thugs and morons and been made to symbolise oppression and hatred.
Stevie?...The British Olympic Team?...Team GB?

I think that in general, England is more aware of being a united kingdom than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are. I live in Scotland and we take more pride in our national flag, the St Andrew's Cross. I think Wales and N. Ireland probably do the same. The Union Jack is an amalgamation of our flags but I think we still maintain our national identities. :)
