Who wears them? Is this a band thing? A rah-rah thing? An athlete thing? Student government type thing? What group is most likely to have a class ring?

Don't bother with one in high school...it'll mean more after college, 'specially if it's a name school.

I can understand the appeal of a class ring for a College or University, however, the novelty is forced and awkward for highschools.
But when you think about it, the goons who salivate over the 'shiny stones' superglued to a massive -not to mention hideous- band are really doing what they're expected to; highschool is where people try to develop and discover themselves. Oftentimes this results in desperate attempts at an identity, what better way to find that identity than an overated, overpriced piece of crap?

Short answer: class rings represent an exclusive class, and the journey through it. Though highshool is a journey, it should not be commemorated by a rock and some shiny metal. Save that for later.

My best friend still gets upset when she thinks about her class ring, she lost. It's been 10 years and still she hates to think about it. I guess its up to the individual, I didn't get one, mainly because I couldn't decide on the design. But its a nice little keepsake. I don't know what group would most likely have it, any 'dorky' people at my school most likely hated high school, and wouldn't of wanted one. I mean the we had cliques, but they weren't as bad as some schools are, so really anybody from my school would have a class ring.

I didn't get a class ring.

My parents made me the offer that I could get a class ring that I would wear for 4 years then be done with (nobody wears them after high school), or I could pick out a nice, classy ring at the jewelry store that I could wear the rest of my life and that would be my "high-school ring". I went for the nice ring from the jewelry store, and I'm glad I did.

There is nothing wrong with that at all! I think that you are making a great decision. I am going to get one as well, i'm pretty excited! Haha. It is great to know that there are other people out there with the same ideas and decisions. It's not dorky at all. You go girl! :)

I got a class ring my senior year and wore it the whole year, but now that I'm in college I never wear it, I don't even really know where it's at, so my advice would be to spend the money on something else.

In my school you can only get class rings in the 11th grade. It's a big thing, and everyone gets all excited for them. Few people don't get them.
It's sort of like an official representation of being an upperclassmen.
Me being a junior this year, definitely looking forward to it.

I used to wear my high school class ring in high school and then once I graduated and went to college I stoped using it, I guess is just a cool thing in the moment and then it goes away.

I got a class ring in my junior year. I'm about to be a senior, and I still wear my class ring. I don't know if I'll still wear it once i hit college though.

You shouldn't go on what anyone else says. You do what you feel is right. Back in the 80's it was usually only the wealthier kids that got class rings.

I bought one. Waste of money. Never wore it (cept for a little bit when I first got it). They're just too big and gaudy. It's more for your parents' generation or even your grandparents'. Nowadays, no one would wear it. Especially a high school ring.
