Perhaps it's because if an animal doesn't look after itself then an infection could lead to their untimely death or living a life of pain, where as humans have the luxury of hospital facilities or dental facilities in the event that we overly neglect our bodies? I'm not saying that this is intentional, but more of a subconscious realization that if our bad habits of ignoring our bodies health and dental hygine is pushed to the limit that we, as an intelligent species, do have alternatives for dealing with the consequences.

Although I am not a expert that have intensely monitored the life style of the "hygienically superior" animal kingdom. It would appear that their entire existence is primarily to tend to their self and not the added concern of making the other animal less fortunate at least not intentionally.
Yes! I could be wrong, then again, the human faculty of hygiene without interference by others are evident by our frowning on the proper and accessible means of accomplishing those goals. That is personal research in "Whumanology" not any way centered solely on the study of women. Animals also will at times assist where humans, while literate are unconcerning in the know.

The idea that lower-life forms do a better job at being "good" than humans is a little obsurd...
Humans do a good a job at looking at themselves... sometimes they are wrong...(okay, alot of times they are wrong)... but what proof do we have that animals do a better job of it....
I've never seen a dog lick the wounds of another dog...
or a bird take care of the terminally ill or the insane..
we are a great animal...we are good and we help eachother...
sure we are not perfect... but we are the best...
that is the reason we rule the world...

That is so true Picnic. Wild animals in general are much better at this, how often do we see a crippled wild beast, never, because they are not tolerated. They are not allowed to breed, they are pushed out to the edge of the herd where they are soon picked off by predators. I believe at one time the USSR proclaimed that they did not produce cripples, that they were destroyed at birth. I believe that boys & girls should be taught what to look out for in a life partner, mentally as well as physical, and in so doing we create a healthier nation in the future.

A few animals are clean like the cats and the snakes, and their instincts are perhaps spread among the human race, so, i would beleive that the individuals with cat and snake instincts are cleaner than those without.

civilization and social nurturing have softened our survival instincts and protect the less able from the old rule of survival of the fittest.
