OK, nobody seems to exactly know this, and I'm hoping you guys do. Is the CONTENT of the kids versions of the Harry Potter books any different to those of the grown-up versions, or is it just that the grown-up versions have "serious" covers and different typefaces? Thanks folks.

The cover is the only thing that is different. Back from the days when adults were embarassed to be seen reading a children's book.

Trust me they use at least 4 swear words in the kids version of number 7, if they really were different, they would have substituted the words for something more child friendly.

I like the kids covers better they're more fun :-)

EDIT:: leggy_babe, they say B*******d twice and a**e as well as a couple of choice others in the childrens version as that is the version that I bought and read.

The content is exactly the same.
The cover is the only difference between the two versions of the book.
There is no difference between the text of the american and british versions either , though many people believe there is. The American version has more pages but this is only to the publishers choice of a larger printing text

As stated by some others, the content is the same, only the cover is different. I guess it was felt that adults wanting to read the book would prefer a more "grown up" illustration on the cover. The same as for the deluxe version, the content is the same but the book itself is a "fancier" edition.

no, the only difference is the cover, i don't know exactly why, i don't see why they would be embarresed, either, because personnally, i think the cover for the kids version looks better, of course, i am a kid, but still, i don't see the point. oh, and by the way leggy_babe, they say those words in the childrens version, too, and you can look it up if you don't believe me, but i know i didn't read the adult version, and i DEFINATELY saw those words.

Hmm...let me save you the trouble of looking through every single answer (though you probably did, considering you got to this one), and sum it all up for you:

The only difference is the cover - there's an adult's cover and a children's cover, since adults are embarrased getting caught reading childrens books. No words are sensored (possibly with the exception of a few).

Its the difference in the covers.

Adults version is black, whereas the kids is colourful. I think the kids may also be slightly larger fonts.

Otherwise, the content is the same

Nope. It's the same. The only difference is the covers. Some adults are embarrassed to be reading a childrens novel out in public.

There is a difference, I thought it was just the cover, but was sat reading my young cousins children's copy of the latest book the other day as my adult copy was at home, and there is some different language. The adult version says B***h and B*****d whereas the children's version leaves these words out. Hope this helps.
