I've never bought that baloney that "good" poetry doesn't rhyme - Read Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market and tell me that's no good! It is so good, in fact, that although it was composed in 1859 as a children's story, it was published in Playboy Magazine a century later and is STILL a topic of heated discussion today.
I actually prefer poetry that rhymes, has a rhythm to it, and tells a story or has such powerful imagery that you see and smell and taste what the author was imagining. To me, being able to convey a message is good, but rising to the challenge of making it rhyme and have rhythm is even better.

Hey, no sweat. Poetry is like talking in code; some people get it, some don't. Some is easy to understand, such as Robert Burns Auld Lang Sine, others are so obscure as to make it almost impossible to understand.
If you have the time, browse through the different kinds; some are so much fun. Poetry is much more emotional than prose.
And, did you know that during the time of Queen Elizabeth the First it was common practice to speak as in poetry?
If you find the kind you like, just enjoy.

well,
a poem is a way to express yourself! and it just sort of comes out. and it comes out how u want it to be. there isnt a right or wrong way because you know its ok! yeah, some people might not understand it but they dont know the meaning of the poem. in the end, u might be the only one.

you let your emotions out with constricting lines and well chosen words with precise intended reactions. it helps to take an english class and learn how people react to certain techniques. then you edit it and edit it again and edit it.
i once wrote a poem that my creative writing class thought was wonderful and meant a lot lot more than i could have imagined it to be. so be concise and fool them all.

you have to write it with passion, and it should come from the heart.
if you'e writing about someone in love, put yourself in their shoes. about nature, write it how you view it. about hardships, or troubles, write it how you would or do feel when you're going through it.
