I will share something with you one of my favorite and wisest college professors shared with me my 1st semester of college. He was a math teacher and everyone was dreading this class. The first day he stood before us and said something I found quite profound:

"Every semester I watch this class start out full ... 35 + students ... and by the end of the semester 1/2 of you are gone. Only to show up in my class again next semester. Not only are you taking seats from students who are willing to work hard and can't get in because the class is full ... but you are cheating yourself out of time, money , and finishing your education. The greatest advice I can give you as you start this first day is to FINISH what you start. No matter how hard you have to work ... I wish you could all grasp the concept that if you do it right the FIRST time ... you'll NEVER have to do it again."

This struck a nerve in me. I'd seen so many friends start classes, drop them, fail out ... only to have to go back and re-take them. What a waste of precious time. I committed right then and there to stick with what I started and work on my grades as well (I didn't do so well in H.S.) From that point on I finished every class I signed up for ... I was there to get an education and so I made that my priority. I still partied and had fun ... but school came first. I knew that if I could finish school and get a good job then I could party all I wanted ... and have the money to do it! What a concept! lol

I went on to graduate with honors and be voted by my peers and teachers as the female most likely to succeed out of the entire Criminal Justice dept. Not bad for a gal who barely graduated from H.S., huh? GO into this with a positive attitude and tell yourself you're going to do it right the FIRST time ... having that attitude and making that commitment from the beginning is what got me where I am today ... and I am quite proud of that!

Good luck to you! =)

Here are a few nuggets of info that helped me get through college:

The first day you arrive on campus, load all of the Pizza shops numbers into your speed dial... Trust me, you will need them some day.

Use your own discretion when buying used books from the book store..... Sure somebody probably has highlighted all the fine points, but then again, that somebody could have been a total moron and highlighted all the wrong info.

Never use a black marker as a highlighter.

If you are ever at a party, and all of the sudden some sheep walk into the room, slowly put your drink down, then run like the wind out of there!

Study, but not too much. As long as you pass the class, you will be fine. Find out the bare minimum required for passing the class, then do just a little better than that.

If a guy comes up to you giggling and trying to sell you drugs..... Just Say NO!!! He will know that you are just a freshmen, and they will not be real drugs... They will more than likely be pencil shavings and oregano.

Most of all, don't forget to have a little fun along the way. You will have the rest of your life to "get serious." College should be your time to go out and discover exactly who you really are.

I wish you much luck, and hope that your college years will be all that you want them to be!

Don't worry about it to much. Just keep up good habits by knowing when to study and work hard and when to play and have fun. Your an adult now, so you have to step up your game when it comes to being prepare for classes, the work load, and studying don't expect your professor to explain things thoroughly like in high school. Remember college is just about balance and discovering yourself. I' am a current college student so it is not that bad and find a good crowd to hang out with.

look out for older guys trying to use you, dont try to find a crush when you first start just concentrate on getting settled with your classes. dont get a job unless you absolutely have to. dont get caught in the credit cards that will be contacting you and at the book store/school store. tell your parents you love them- it might pay off when you need some $. just remember the first semester is the hardest because its a transition period and just remember trying your best will pay off. also, if you can go to a community college to save money, the first 2 semester credits can usually be transferred.

I don't agree with everyone else's comments. I think she's just being friendly. She put you on a friendship level. I would know. She sounds like she has my personality. I say wait it out. Wait for bigger signs. Like a touch to your arm while your talking or constantly laughing at what your saying. Look at her body language too. Is she pointing in your direction when shes sitting near you? Try yawning or stretching when your near her. If she yawns right after you, go for it.

The boys are trouble and so are the parties. Your studies are most important. Try to understand that no one is going to stand over you and make you do your classwork/ homework. You are an adult now. Make good decisions.

Do not declare a major until you have to. Work on your gen. ed. credits 1st, and avoid 8:00am classes like the plague.

Have fun but don't forget to study.
Don't worry about joining any campus frats and such.
Get through it grade up!
Don't think that being in college and being virgin is important.
Keep it real! You'll get through with honors.

Study and don`t party too much .
Never go to frat parties when there are only a few females .
That is where they use the Date Rape drug.
