Nothing will protect your equipment from a direct lightning hit if it's connected or even near the ground circuit. So ask yourself, are you feeling lucky? Well, are you? :-)

No, you should shut your computer off in this situation. The battery backup is there so that you can safely shut down your computer before the electricity goes off completely and you lose what you are working on or your computer becomes damaged from a power surge. It gives you that extra few minutes you need to save your work and turn off your computer.

If all your components are plugged into your battery backup (UPS), then you should be fairly safe to keep going. Keep in mind that rapid on and off can damage equipment. I would recommend that you save everything and shutdown gracefully while on battery so the equipment doesn't power off during a critical time.

yes it is safe to use

yes if lightning hit ur house u have far more to worry bgout then just if ur computer is safe. lightning hit my aunts house and everything plugged in wheater it was surge protected or not was fryed.

no if lightning strikes your house there is always internet and other lines in and trust me kid anything that is metal or wet or anything but pure water and rubber, you are screwed.
