Any ideas? Been looking around kind of but there are tons of them out there and I haven't kept up. Seems like the better they look, the less fuel efficient they are and vise versa.

New? There are none.

Used, if you care about fuel efficiency, you have a few choices:

BMW Z3
Mazda Miata
Toyota MR-2/MR-S
Chevrolet Corvette (really...it's the gearing)

There are a few more in the 30k + range, but under 20k, those are pretty much your choices for fuel-efficient sports cars.

If you're considering FWD models as well, you can add the Civic SI/RSX-S and Celica GTS.

The Subaru WRX and Honda S2000 are okay on gas, too.

The Mazda Miata/MX5 has good performance and fuel economy. You might need to get a slightly used one to get under 20k. A Honda Civic SI should be around 20k, the performance is fun and the engine revs up to 8000 RPM.

You'll have to do some Volkswagen shopping if you want a well engineered new car that's fast and good on mileage. There is an entry level Ford Mustang with a 6 cyl engine but what the MPG's are I don't know.

Good Luck!

For close to that amount you can get a Pontiac Solstice or a Saturn Sky. I think they are 25 to 27K. The Mazda Miata MX5 is in that same range. I think the Sky looks as good as a Viper or Vette, just does not have the big engine, but does have the mileage you want. Check it out
