Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW), is an independent German company and manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles. BMW is the parent company of the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands. It is also one of the leading German car manufacturers.

The company that makes BMW is called Bavarian Motor Works (Also Known as Rapp Motoren Werke).The origins of BMW can be back to 1913 when Karl Friedrich Rapp, a Bavarian who had been a well-known engineer in a German aircraft company, formed Rapp Motoren Werke in a suburb of Munich.

I'm not looking for best answer, I just had to say I can not BELIEVE someone would say the bmw was a british car, thou it's not the first time I've heard it.

The rest of the answers are correct, the english of it is Bavarian Motor Works, the german language would call it Bayerische Motoren Werke, it literally translates to that either way.

BMW cars are made by BMW. Is actually a engine maker and all other parts are from other companies. At this time, BMW makes engine and car body and assemble the car. Transmission are made by GM and ZF, radiator is made by Bahr, and most of suspension parts are made by Lemforder.

I am African, and my dad used to call his BMW "Blik Met Wiele" which means can with wheels.... ;-)
