It may be possible that traveling in time would disable our ability to interact with the first three dimensions. In other words, if time travel prevents us from interacting with our physical world, it is possible to discover it in the future with no current evidence that it will have happened.
This time travel is the opposite of what we currently experience, where we can return to an identical physical location at will, but not arrive at the same time twice. Future time travel would allow you to return to an identical time location, but not allow you to share the same physical location at the same time.
It would be possible that we would be more like ghosts, able to see history once again, but unable to act in it's dimensions.

I myself don't know what to belief, but it might be possible. There was some documentary show about the Philadelphia experiment, which happened in 1943. The experiment is originally designed to make a battleship USS Eldridge to be invinsible to the naked eye, but somehow the ship is not only become invinsible but went to the future. There are some documents that actually support this incident, I forgot exactly what it was. You might want to do some research in the library or the net. There was also another incident during the experiment that the battleship suddenly arrive in another location within seconds instead of days, a phenomenon called teleportation. Well that's all I remember about the documentary. I am sure you can find alot more info from the library or the net.

Time travel is possible and actually quite easy. The faster one goes, the more time slows. So, astronauts for example who have a watch and are on extended trips can observe that there watch is a minute behind the rest of the worlds upon their return. To travel to the future, all one would need to to is accelerate towards the speed of light out into space, make a loop and come back again. The trip may have taken a week for the traveler but years would have elapsed on earth. Poof..you are in the future. Good luck getting back to the present though.

I suspect that, at least collectively, we would not know. It is not because people (or any other, future entities) will ever be flawless, but rather because people have difficulty accepting something that does not match their perception of the way the world works. A time-traveler would be dismissed as insane, and other signs of time travel having occurred would be explained away easily enough.
Individuals could well know; there are certainly among us those who are able to accept occurrences outside their own understanding. The UFO example is a good one here; most people do not believe that aliens have visited our planet, but there are some who are convinced that they have seen it. I don't know whether those people are correct or not, but it is a good example of masses being unconvinced by the experiences of a few.

This really reminds me of the whole concept of quantum physics... you know, the whole concept of multiple universes existing at the same time, but in different dimensions... like, say you went to the grocery store and had to choose between the banana and the apple. If you chose the apple, life would continue on for you, but there is that other world that continues in which you chose the banana. Do you get what I'm saying? Its definitely difficult to explain.
Anyways, I think that we wouldn't kill ourselves if time travel were invented. I do think we would make the world a more chaotic, more overpopulated world. It would just be disasterous (think of the Greek mythology story of how the humans received the power of fire via Prometheus's recklessness). And I am almost certain that someone would be irresponsible, as long as there is someone out there wanting to gain more for theirselves (personal gain, greed, whatever you may call it) irresponsibility will exist.
Please understand that I am just merely expressing my thoughts, just as you asked! lol.
Take care and have fun contemplating the possiblity of time travel!!!

They had a well publisized "Welcome time traveler" get together at harvard or stanford. On a parkinglot the size of a football field with a landing pad the size of a yatch. Ofcoarse, no time travelers showed for the event. Some concluded it may be too expensive to travel through time for such a frivilous purpose.
And presumeably, if we did have irresponsible time travelers, responsible time travelers would likely police them. Flawless or not.

it is something of a joke among physicists that the best evidence we have that time travel is not possible is that we have yet to be invaded by hordes of time-travelling tourists...
