Their album Presence led me to wonder this question, especially Royal Orleans and Candy Store Rock.

Alot of their early stuff were remakes of Willie Dixon and other great Blues artists. I do think that Zeppelin put their own "spin" on the tracks and that's what made me a fan.

Yeah, they had a guy on Howard Stern the other morning who brought Zeppelin jams & the songs they ripped off.

They were blatant ripoffs & I'm sure alot of Zep fans might've not wanted to find this out.

No doubt L.Z. is a great group but they should've credited the people they took the music from at the start & it wouldn't be such a big deal now. I mean sh!t man, it's just a matter of putting their names next to thiers on the album cover credits.

Back then, they probably had no way of knowing how easily accessable information would be in the future because of the internet. They probably figured none of their fans really had any way of knowing about those other artists & said "F--k it".

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't find it suprising. Rock's roots is directly connected to be-bop which is derived from Jazz, which is the first music form created in America, and jazz is derived from African music and other African-American forms of folk music. You are probably right. Rhythm and percussion is African in origin.

Probably not directly, but many genres of music inter-influence each other.

I do know the inspriation for "Kashmir" came from either Jimmy Page or Robert Plant's vacation in the 70s to Morocco.

Pretty much all of rock music has been derived from blues originated by African Americans. Do some research on it, it's pretty interesting.
