Because the core base of the voters don't spend all of their time on line. The younger people spend much more time and they're the ones who are supporting Ron Paul the most.
I happen to like many things about him, but he doesn't stand a chance in hades.

I guess for the same reason that while every poll shows two-thirds of Americans in disapproval of the President's performance, two-thirds of the people on Yahoo! Politics want to hang you for being a commie "lieberal" traitor when you come even halfway close to questioning this administration.
This here internet may not be the real world after all, folks.

I think Ron Paul's platform which involves dismantling bureacratic institutions would harm the media conglomerate in the long run, so it is against their interests to support him. Much like Congress is unlikely to support Dr. Paul because he wants to abolish the IRS but members of Congress use the IRS to give themselves and their constituents money. I think, I'm not really clear on it yet.

Ron Paul is behind in the most important poll, fund raising. He can't afford to get his butt where the media is.
Instead he sends his marginal minions from the Internet out to do his wet work.
The Internet is free.
If he was so popular, why aren't his followers confident enough in him to part with some money?
Judging by the sympathetic web sites, he is most afraid of Romney and bashes him regularly.
That tells me a lot about Romney and I'm leaning that way.

The internet has a huge over-representation of liberty-minded people who are sick to death of both major political parties.
Demographically, it is still not a large enough group to push a candidate alone, but it is a growing demographic.
2016 should be VERY interesting.

Probably because he's only got 2% of the GOP primary vote (so he's inconsequential to the media), but that 2% can all conglomerate to one website (such as this one) on the internet.

I wouldn't say his popularity is huge on the Internet. I would say it is larger on the Internet than reality but overall his 2% is more than he deserves and he is lucky to have that. I suspect he and his pesky little support group will be gone after the first rounds of primaries in January and February.

Probably because the second and third candidates of each party will get more votes than he will.

Because you and your friends all hang out in the same chat room, so it appears he has huge popularity. If his name is on the ballot, I'll be amazed.
