you can check the ASPCA website to see which kind of dog suits your living style. Then try to get one close to that.

Believe me if you live in the city and get a dog that needs to run alot... your gonna have problems... Some need alot of attention and then some dont... The website has all that info...

If you look into a certain breed... They have website for them aswell and they give more information.

I have a lab and a border collie.
The lab takes forever to grow up, but the collie is sweet and tender but has alot of health issues.. sometimes there is a trade off.

good luck

That all depends. Do you already have pets? Have you had pets before? What kind of knowledge do you have on pets? Is your living space large or small? Will the pet be living inside or outside?

Make a list of the kinds of pets that interest you. Read up on the cost, raising, and caring for each one. As you learn about the pros and cons of each animal, you can eliminate the ones from the list that may not work out with your finances or abilities to care for them.
It's possible that all the animals may be crossed off. That's not a bad thing. It simply gives you an honest answer. Best you find this out before you get that pet. Then you can work on the things necessary to make having a pet possible for you.
Good luck.

Well, i have both, and i will tell you right away dogs are much more work. They have to be let outside and be watched. On the other hand cats are much more mellow and calm. It also depends on what you like. If you like something that isn't around much then a cat would be for you, but if you like a lot of attention then take the dog. I personally would get a dog because i love them to death. Also, cats don't need to be watched like dogs do so also take that into consideration.

whichever pet you decide to get, make sure you do lots of research on the care of it.. look up the longevity and make SURE you are able to care for it for its entire life. rescue a dog. what do you mean, "my local animal rescue only has cats and dogs"? theres nothing wrong with a cat or dog. but make sure you can care for it for its entire life. if you arent, you are too immature to own a pet. if anything, a goldfish.

it depends on which pet you can afford, have time for, won't get bored of

Cats

are good but would help if you had a garden, quite affordable but vets bills can very expensive you will need to consider neutering and vaccinations. You do not need to excercise them yourself. They tend to give you attention in return for yours.

Dogs

need lots of attention and excercise. Obviously you will need to walk it at least twice a day (more the better) if you have a garden it can do its business there. You may have to consider neutering and will have to finance vaccinations. Vets bills can be very expensive. You will need quite a bit of room in the house.

Hamsters

are good for when you do not have much time and space to give. They do not take up much room and are quite inexpensive. You will need to buy sawdust, food and chews whenever needed but the main expense is when you first get your hamster. The cage is the most expensive part. Hampsters need time out of the cage each day, this can be done by handling and with an excercise ball. They are not an interactive pet like a dog but can be trained to feed from hand. They will hardly ever need to be taken to the vet unless ill. Syrian/golden hamsters prefer to be on their own other breeds prefer friends =]

Rats

your first thought would probably be ew but they are one of the best pets you can get. They respond well to training and enjoy human attention. They need a fairly large cage designed for rats of ferrets. They also need alot of toys to keep them entertained while you are not with them. Once again the main expense is the cage. They will hardly ever need taking to the vet unless ill. They need lots of time out of the cage. Enjoys handelling an like to be with other rats.

Parrots, budgies finches ect

are annoying i would know i have a budgie! every time you want to watch summit good on tv he squaurks. They need a large cage so they can fly. They can be trained to perch on your finger, some breeds can be trained to talk. They would appreciate time outside the cage, just make sure you can catch them again. They may need to be taken to the vets to have their claws clipped or sometimes beak. They need cuttlefish bone and toys to keep them entertained. Most like to be kept in pairs.

hope this helped

there are more pets available just research them

I have a tendency to shop for from strong point puppy retail outlets, considering i dont relatively love to aid the chain puppy retail outlets on account that they frequently get their animals from generators. Also, speciality retail outlets have larger manufacturers and meals than different retail outlets. I have long gone to walmart as soon as, and discovered that their models seemednquite low priced, a minimum of at mine. I used to be watching for toys, however definitly no longer any form of pellets/meals. I lamentably discovered that they chunk toys that they'd, i didn't believe. But i did decide upon up a kit of treats, and a hideyhouse for my hamster. Buying on-line might be very well, if you'll be able to uncover someplace that ships in your field for low priced, and if you purchase alot, you'll be able to mainly get a deal. I choose to shop for the meals in individual considering then you'll be able to honestly see what younare shopping, and the pleasant earlier than date, and How the meals honestly appears. But it relatively is solely your alternative, and the goods that your retailer shares that's close you.

I'd say a rat, guinea pig or a cat. Cats are really nice nice animals, very love able. Dogs are nice too, but I'd prefer a cat, because they're not so rambunctious. That's just me though. Guinea pigs are very loving too, and cute. I had one, he was my best friend. Rats are very intelligent creatures, and very fun. So I guess it depends what you're looking for.
