1994 pontiac bonnevile air conditioner problem?

I am not to familar with cars but my girlfriends 94 bonneville air conditioner has died or so we think. I picked up a pressure gauge from pep boys and test the pressure from the air conditioner and it seems like it is pressuarized but the pressure goes up and down. Now I noticed what I beleive is the air conditioner condenser the fly wheel spins for like a second or two and then stops. It looks like it catches and then lets go. Could it be the thermostat or is it the condenser???

I think what you are saying is the compressor clutch in the front of the compressor engages and then disengages before the temp of the outlet of the AC gets cold. It sounds as if the system is working properly, but is very low on refrigerant as this is one of the conditions that lets us know this. There are pressure switches installed to protect the compressor when the level is low and what it does is cut out the compressor. You need to get the car leak checked and repaired if nec and then a full evacuate and recharge of the AC system to repair it. Good luck.
