Yes, I am an engineer and do a lot of quick paper calcs so pencil is mandatory.
I use a machanical pencil with HB lead. Its called lead but its really a graphite compound. I had a real nice gold-plated pencil for a while but it kept getting broken through constant use and misuse so now I just use common inexpensive mechanical pencils like Pilot.
