You have that backwards. The way you have the question stated it makes no sense.
But Yes a pessimist is just an optimist with experience.
Sounds like Mark Twain

Interesting question, but you wanna know what? I'd turn that around and say that a pessimist is an optimist with experience. The question I just answered was why don't things ever turn out the way you expect them to? And my answer was that our expectations often exceed reality. Therefore, I maintain that an optimist who always looks on the bright side, doesn't seem to mind the rain. But sooner or later he'll realize that he doesn't live in a perfect world, and in fact, in the world, s**t happens, and his optimism gradually fades away to pessimism. There is no reason I can think of at this point, where a pessimist starts to look on the bright side. To do so, would probably blind him. That's my take, but thanks for yours.

If someone is a true "optimist" they would be thought of as "naive" or have an "unrealistic expectation" of reality. Sad but true.
Equally a "pessimist" has the same problem but in a reverse factor.
So if your question is can a person with traumatic situations ever become an optimist? Yes. If they put their blinders on.

I would say this question can be true or false depending on the context. Most people are optimistic or pessimistic based on their perception of (limited) personal experience or what they believe to be true. It is my opinion that it is better to be more of a realist taking a standpoint for a little bit of both. People who are true optimists often find themselves overlooking relevant risks while true pessimists tend to exaggerate them.

Personality wise I'm an optimist, I don't remember ever being a pessimist.

Yeah I agree with the first person, a pessimist is just an optimist with experience. In life you'll find that the glass is almost always half empty, the glass is dirty, and someone has spit all in your milk.

I think in general people are optimistic. It's only after a series of badness that people become pessimistic.
But I could sortta see where you might think that way.

I've always found it easier to be optimistic when I'm a bit inexperienced and ignorant, perhaps because I can fill in the blanks with what I wish to be true.

Love that question. Never thought of it and now it has me wondering as i could identify. Experiencing all the bad actually does something for us it allows us to see the light.
