Health care.

Everyone I know who has declared bankruptcy did so due to health care bills.

Nearly everyone I know in heavy debt got there due to doctors bills.

Even if you save, how do you go about paying for years of cancer treatment? What do you do when you get behind on your portion and insurance payments so they drop you? How do you pay $100k+ per year when youre too weak to work from the treatments?

How do you watch a friend die knowing you cant afford to help them, and the gov't isnt interested in helping them because people say they werent financially responsible?

Catastrophic events in a persons life like: major illness combined with no insurance or financial cussion and uninsured weather disasters. Another major reason for bankruptcies is people buy more than they can afford and are eventually pinned in the corner by their own poor decisions.

It is a person's responsibility to provide for their family the necessities first: food, clothing, and shelter. After that they are responsible to provide other needed but not necessary items like Health insurance and transportation.

If people would eliminate the crap from the necessity list in their lives, they could easily afford health care. These items include cell phones, cable tv, nice cars, expensive fasion clothing, and etc. THOSE ARE LESS IMPORTANT THAN HEALTH CARE. Wants should be purchased last. I don't care how much a person WANTS a cell phone. It is their responsiblity to make the decision what is more important to them and the health risk they are willing to take. If a family is involved, the healthcare should always come before wanted items that aren't necessary. That is basic personal responsiblity.

To make healthcare easier to afford, universal healthcare is not the answer. The free market place would quickly eliminate wasted expenditures from bloated billing. Customer satisfaction and compitition would enter the picture again. A person could get the level health care they are willing to pay for at prices held down by competition for your business. Prices and customer satisfaction would always be in the minds of the medical community.

.........When people truly need help, good people are always there to step up to help. God is always working good through people.

Man oh man what a bunch of self-righteous, judgemental people here. I work, I have savings, I have health coverage. I don't have credit cards and I do not live beyond my means.Regardless should a major catastophe enter my life. I would probably be in financial trouble.

Maybe people should take better care of themselves then if they don't want to have to declare bankruptcy. You know what the number one cause of major medical problems is? Smoking, drinking, drug use and obesity. Don't do any of the first 3, eat healthy and exercise and you won't have to declare bankruptcy.

It's called personal responsibility!

I am guessing excessive borrowing.

Of course an analysis that tried to show that bills of type [x] were the 'cause' of bankruptcy would be stupid and purely designed to sell some particular agenda.

After all, do any of the people represented in the "#1" bracket have televisions, homes, cars, x-box 360s?

Of course they do. Who is to say the x-box 360 was not the cause?

What a crock. It is amazing what rubbish people will buy in to.

People having to have everything they want and nothing they might need someday.

Look at the people who use Medicaid with their brand new iPhone, some new jewelry, and a brand-new car in the parking lot.

If you don't have health care but you have cable, a cell phone, an iPod, or [any other want], you HAVE MADE YOUR CHOICE.

So your blaming cons for the high costs of healthcare....Really smart there buddy... If America would live within there means and not run up outlandish credit card balances, driving cars they cant afford, trying to impress people they dont even like, with money they dont even have. maybe they would have enough money for their healthcare. Your a typical liberal, blaming everyone but yourself, and not taking any responsibilty for yourself. Go get a job and healthcare instead of relying on the government to support your bad habits.

I would say it's bad financial care taking. The average American saves $-0.05 for every dollar they earn. When they need health care, of course they don't have the money for it.

Of all these people that went bankrupt from health care bills, I'd be curious to see where they spent their money before they needed it so I can say "I told you so".

Job loss due to illness remains the number one cause of personal bankruptcy.

The number one cause of company bankruptcy is divorce.

Keeping up with the Jone's and not setting money aside for things like health care. Hey that iPod and 60" TV set is of bigger importance. Why waste that money on insurance. Instead, expect those people who don't waste their money on crap like that to pick up the tab for you.
