You probably need to focus your question and not try to fit so much into one thing.
I can tell you that a lot of people are not only easily offended, they are looking for reasons to take offense. If you say "good morning" they are going to get angry. Some people are just like that. The first two answers to your question are examples of what I'm saying.
Now, what do you REALLY want to know. Should we scrap Affirmative Action? Absolutely. Preferences based on race are wrong no matter what race is benefited, and it insults everyone of that race regardless of whether they got theirs based on merit or not.

Whatever job I apply for I know I'm qualified to have. I wouldn't want to be hired just because of my race. I want to be hired because they knew I was the best candidate for the position. If I found out otherwise, I would quit immediately. Usually I can tell right off places like that. There should be no discrimination in the work place anyway and that not only goes for race. This could be a physical disability, gender, or age. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, so discrimination does still exist. That is part of the reason we still need affirmative action. Sometimes no matter how qualified you are you are judged based upon other characteristics. The really hard part is knowing the difference between what is discrimination and whether or not you aren't qualified for the job.

No, I was the best person for the job position...Yeah, I have some haters that claim that...but I know the truth so it doesn't bother me. Only crybabies blame it on Affirmative Action. They just can't handle a Minority being better than them.

I wouldn't get offended, I would just say that the proof is in the pudding. I would prove that I am good at what I do. I personally think that I can get a job without it and I don't know that it has ever been used. However, I also know the need for diversity in the workplace. So I think that my ethnicity was a plus when I was hired.

To the Black man or woman who is secure in the fact that they are qualified,no. A person of dignity and confidence would not wonder that about themselves. And as for some of the answers you received for asking this question, shame on them. How can you know your brothers or sisters heart if you do not ask them.
Affirmative action only slightly levels the playing field. It will be up to that man or woman to score the touch down.

And how would one know for sure that a black person was hired because of affirmative action, or solely on their own merit? You don't, so why bother to speculate other than to offend.

To me, it was uncooth to state such a thing in front of the party in which the comment was referring to. That's tacky. What's wrong with just saying, "We all have our preference and mine is black men." There. No foul. That's like two guys standing next to a guy they know is gay and saying, "I don't see how people can be gay." Or two white women standing and one saying she dates black guys and her friends say, "I would never date a black guy" and a black guy is right there. So I feel that the offense was taken in the brashness of the statement and not that the preference is black men.

I'm black and i sometimes wonder if i got my job because of affirmative action but at the end of the day i dont dwell on it, I'm just happy i got the job! As far as getting offended if a white person says i only got the job because I'm black my only response will be "you're probably right, but you're white so chances are you're standards of living are higher than mine anyway"

Affirmative action is a bunch of bullshit. It cost more deserving applicants thousands of jobs a day. Equality my A$S.
