Although the best option would have been the use of condoms!

Good reasons for abortion are out there; be creative. One, pregnancy isn't always intended, and there are practical reasons to not have a child you can't afford or want. Two, sometimes it is in the best interests of the mother for any number of health reasons. I'm more of a realist, not religious, science-oriented, and I have to say, it may be a little person, but in the very early stages, it is quite a small thing. We kill everything from huge animals to little bugs by the thousands every day for practical reasons. It's a private decision that should be respected, because it has always gone on and always will.

And folks remember this is just an "assignment" to debate one side or the other of an issue. It's his job to keep personal feelings out and just have a good argument. Don't get all emotional about it! If he doesn't come up with any good responses, he loses the debate. It's not about who's right or wrong. It's who is more convincing.

Well, here is a true story. I think it would have been 1969 or 1970, I was 1 or 2 years old, my mother and father decided to try for a little sibling for me. The pregnancy had serious issues from the start. They told my parents that if the baby did survive, it would have serious mental and physical disabilities, but my parents did everything they could to preserve the pregnancy anyway. My mom went on bed rest, and followed all the doctor's instructions. Despite their best efforts, the baby died at almost 7 months gestation. But she did not go into labor on her own even though the baby died. Her doctor said that they could not induce labor because it would be like an abortion, and forced her to carry the dead baby for 3 weeks until she finally went into labor on her own. This could have caused a toxic situation in her body, and could have even killed her. Thankfully, she recovered and was able to give birth to my sister two years later.

Even though I am pro-life, this situation makes me believe that abortion should never be completely illegal or there could be more situations like this. Hope this helps.

hi :]
thanks of the other answer btw.

i think that abortion is deffintly not a good idea because
1/ if your not responsible enough to accept your having a baby then don't have sex.
2/ some of the time people just end up being pregnant with someone else and dont wana tell their boyfriends/husbands so they get an abortion , which is really wrong because they were cheating.
3/ ending someones life is just not right.
4/ being born with disabilities, is like saying you want to end your new babys life because you found out it had blue eyes, not right. no matter what happens there is always a way to get help.

good luck and maybe we can talk sometime about otherrr things :]

Debate camp? Here's some pro-abortion arguments:

- Women get to uphold their "right to choose" (which, as a woman, I don't really understand what that overused statement means. Yes, I know what it says, but I think it's BS!).

- Population control. Think of all the thousands of unwanted babies we could have in orphanages.

- People will have them anyways, at least legal abortions are safe.

You might want to go back and read that again, because no one, not even women who have them, think that an abortion is "a good idea." No one wakes up in the morning and decides to have an abortion because they can't think of anything else to do, and certainly they don't have one because it's good or fun.

What it probably means is that women should have the right to choose whether or not to have an abortion, which is a totally different issue. Women and their doctors, not the government or republican YA trolls, should make that extremely personal and heart-wrenching decision.

If you want ways that a pro-choice stance is a good one, look at history. Look at all of the women who died when abortion was illegal, because of botched, "back-alley" abortions that they suffered as a result of untrained doctors breaking the law. Look at how the advent of birth control severely limited the numbers of abortions after it was legalized. Look at how many children were abandoned and given up to the state.

You cannot argue that it is a good idea because that is up to the person getting the abortion. I would never get an abortion and would like it discouraged as much as possible but not outlawed.

I am against abortion 100%. I believe it has nothing to do with choice or freedom but it is murder.

However, for the sake of academia you may consider exploring the two only “arguable” instances I would ever consider abortion being “justified”. Rape/incest and risk of death to mother, baby or both.

I as a male cannot pretend to relate to the idea of carrying a child conceived through rape or incest but, what did that baby ever do to deserve dying?

Risk of death to mother, baby or both.. I as a husband don’t know what I would say if that ever came up with my wife… I am not sure.

Hope that helps…

I hate when you have to debate for something you don't belive in :)

Well, you could bring up the fact that people make mistakes. You could also say that for some people who are abusive and don't want kids, it would be better if their kids would not have to be beaten or whatever.

You could bring up that people who were raped and not wanting kids. Or Teenagers who still want to go to school, don't have anyone to take care of kids, and don't have a way for them to take care of them.

I honestly don't like abortions, and I hope that didn't seem kinda sterotypical to anyone. that was't my intention

There is only one reason why abortion would be a good idea and that is if the LIFE of the mother depended on it. With modern technology this is very rarely the case however.
