I have a close friend who needs to take care of his hygiene and I really want to give him some advice but don't know how to go about doing so without hurting his feelings. Its not just his oral hygiene but also his overall body odor. I guess I wouldn't be complaining about it so bad but it gets me nauseated when hes in the car with me. I know other people feel the same but never spoke up. The closest I ever got was recommending a GQ magazine to him. He's a great guy and I know once he cleans up, he'll surely be able to get a date. Any suggestions?

there is no easy way.

you just have to tell him.
wouldn't you want someone to tell you?

Just take him aside.
and say hey maybe it is your diet. but man you really need to shower more often or use body wash, perhaps buy him some deodorant.

Good luck

After a while, if a person doesn't bathe, they get used to the smell; but, no, other people don't....I say you get at least one other person who knows him and his problem and when he gets in the car---don't go anywhere until you let him know him lack of personal hygience is offending everyone...and it needs immediate attention! If he expects to ride in your car, he has to clean up his act...(from head to toe)...if not...he'd better make other arrangements for transportation....(make it a point to him that this goes into effect today)! if he doesn't agree about his body odor (denial)...then he is not going to bathe....but you are no longer concerned, Right? You should make him pay for your car getting deodorized!

If he is a close friend then you should bring it up to him. Not in a round about, hint hint kind of way. I mean come on he's a guy hints never work. Instead have a talk with him. He may or may not be offended; but as a friend you should bring it up if it bothers you. He may not know about it or he may have some medical condition that causes it.

Fix your friend a gift basket of some great soaps, tooth whitening toothpaste, and and body washes. Once he samples it, surely he will continue to use. Fragrances will definitely attract the opposite sex when he walks by, as will fresh breath, a healthy smile, and clean hair. You could leave the basket in his car or have it sent to him. You don't have to put a card on it, so he doesn't have to find out who sent it.

Just be honest with him, tell him how you had heard other people talks about that subject and before somebody embarrass him in front of more people or girls, you (as a good friend should) wanted to tell him what's going on.
He might get offended, but he'll understand and appreciate your honesty, rather than hiding it or making fun like other might be doing.

There is really no easy way!! If he is at your house or something you could be like "I need to brush my teeth after each meal, the way my teeth feel grosses me out" maybe he will follow!! Or say something like "which deodorant do you think is the best when trying to impress a girl Degree or Axe" just drop small hints here and there if you dont want to tell him full frontal!!

May suggest some items you use like shampoo, body spray, whatever. An example would be I tried this brand new kind of Axe body spray and it smells great ... you should try it. Just try to be a bit stealthy.. just don't say you smell because that could make this situation worse.

Some times its better to be honest with someone even though it may hurt their feelings. Ask him how he is going to get a girl if he smells dank. Or he could just be incredibly lazy and just doest want to be bothered w/ showers.

Yea, don't be a pansy... If you are a friend, TELL HIM !!! I have had friends for over 20 years and if they stink, I say " Hey you stink fvcker " or " Man that breath is going to kill someone." You might not want to be that harsh but don't be a little b*tch ether.

You just have to tell him the truth. Hopefully, he will appreciate you later. Try to soften the blow by telling him about things you have trouble with. Kind of try to identify with him. Tell him something like, "I know you have trouble with this, but I have troubles with other things and you are good at those."
