You're supposed to FAST before you take the test, and YES the blueberry muffin TOTALLY screws it up.
You need to call in and tell them you didnt fast, and repeat the rest WITHOUT EATING before hand.

Hi, if you had the 1st test then dont worry you are not suppose to fast, like everyone here is saying.
The 2nd test which is the 2 hour test is the fasting one, which you will do next to confirm if you have gestational diabetes.
This is my 2nd pregnancy and the first test for me was high too, but the 2 hour test showed normal,so thank God, i was fine.
My 1st pregnancy i had gestational diabetes. It was diet controlled ( i gained too much weight too quickly). As far as you and baby go, if you follow the diet nothing i\happens to you or baby, so dont worry.
If you dont follow instructions, you can have a larger baby and you could have a hard labour.
The next test you do, you fast from 10pm the night before but you can have water.
Good luck with the test and try not to wory about it.

With the 3 hour you have to fast, because they will take a fasting blood draw and check it to make sure you are not already to high. I know with all my 1 hour I wasn't fasting before, because I wasn't told I had too, and with one my doctor sent me that same day when I left his office to have it done that was with my 3rd and it came back 346. There was no question I had GD.
With my first baby, they still let you leave and come back an hour later. I went and had lunch and ate a snickers. I shouldn't have done that but I was starving to death, but it still came back in the normal range. Fact is no matter how much sugar or carbs you take in your body should be able to keep your blood sugar in the normal range. If it doesn't then there is a problem, the 3 hour will show them how your body is using the insulin. Some people fail the 1 hour then pass the 3 hour. I wouldn't worry to much about it. resistant

Yes, I had a similar experience. I ate something sugary before the first test, and mine came back high. I had to go in and take the second test. The second test came back fine. Be prepared, the second test is not as easy. I had to call my sister to come help me out, b/c I was feeling so sick at one point. Because of the glucose drink, your blood sugar really goes crazy, and it can make you feel really sick.
If your second test comes back too high too, then you are diagnosed with gestation diabetes. My sister had this during her pregnancy. She had to check her blood sugar through out the day with a glucometer, follow a strict diet, and take medication to regulate her blood sugar. She had a really bad case. Most people don't have that much trouble, and don't even have to follow the diet that closely.
The main concern is having a large baby if you don't control your blood sugar. Also, if you aren't careful it can be rough on certain organs like your kidneys.
If you are diagnosed with g.d. your will go to a few different doctors to advise you (maternal fetal medicine, nutritionist, etc.)
P.S. I wasn't told to fast before the first one either, I don't know if they require it for the first one, but I know for the second one they will give you specific instructions on fasting.

Eating before the glucose test can definitely affect your results, you should notify your Doctor.... The results from my first test were high, and I had to do the 3 hr test, my results came back low enough to keep me from being put on the diet, but they were borderline so I was told to watch my sugar and carb intake.

I run a lab at a clinic that preforms these test and Yes it is common for a person to retake the 1hour glucose test and do the 3hour test. Same nasty drink don't eat for 12hours before and you cant eat at all during the 3hours little sips of water but that's it.
gestational diabetes or diabetes during pregnancy it pretty common that's why their is a pre-screen for it but you and your baby should be fine read up and get ready to sit around and get poked at least 4X's by the time you walk out of the clinic.

Either you have gestational diabetes or as you stated the muffin could have effected it. They tell you not to eat or drink anything sweet before the test. If you do have diabetes it just means that you need to watch your diet closer and you will probably go in more freguently for visits.

Usually you are suppose to fast before you take the test. That may have messed with the results. I would tell your doctor when you go back in.
