First off, you got to know what the director's name is. He is the famous Stanley Kubrick. He did other great movies such as A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and a lot more. He should be like in the top 5 Directors of all time.

As of Dr. Strangelove, this is a movie about what might have happened in the Cold War. Just about everything in this brilliant satire of Cold War politics is perfect. Kubrick created his first template masterpiece with this hilarious comedy that sees military bureaucracy as a comedy of errors and a hot-line conversation between the President of the US and the Premier of the USSR as a snippy fit between quasi-lovers. You have everything you could ever want here: great dialogue, fantastic acting, flawless directing, cool sets, and timely political farce (that could still ring true today in this age of Bush America, Institutionalized Fear, and the War on Terror).

If a mistake ofn dropping the bomb could have happened, then everything would go wrong. This movie shows that. Also, instead of being a movie about just war and being depressing, it goes the opposite by giving the audience something to laugh at because of its comedy.

Stanley Kubrick was trying to show that the people in charge of nuclear weapons are not necessarily qualified to do so, and that our lives are literally on the verge of death at any given minute due to the threat of a nuclear catastrophe. The movie is what is referred to as a "dark comedy" - it is both funny and terrifying at the same time, because it just might happen that a nuclear disaster could occur because of a few "loose cannon" generals. It might be less likely now, but there are still tens of thousands of nuclear weapons in this world - we are NOT safe.
