Well, slavery is the obvious one. Though both the North and South looked down on African Americans during this time, the North was more accepting to the idea of not treating them like animals, were the south remained in the dark ages of morals and thought they should be used to do the will of the white man.

Sectionalism is a problem we continue to face as a society. You see it every day in the world even our own country cares more about itself then the world as a whole. This theory holds true throughout history and was evident in the differences between the North and South. People are and were greedy, lazy, and selfish it is human nature. The North and South aimed to prosper and the expense of whatever got in there way. Have you studied Manifest Destiny yet? Look it up.

Oh, westward expansion (manifest destiny- the god given right for the American expansion to the west regardless of what was in the way.) I believe the major problems of westward expansion between the two was were the railroads would be built. You see were the railroads went money followed, the railroad companies were like the oil companies now everyone wanted a piece. The federal government began making decisions on were the railroads would go and this created much tension.

Ok, well I was just giving you something to get you started, this is by no means a proper answere. Apparently a lot of people don't like this type of question. If you are trying to get people to do your homework through yahoo answeres you are in real trouble, cause you can take everything you hear on this site as fact.

In a nutshell the major causes of the Civil War include the expansion of slavery into the western territories and increasing antislavery sentiments by many in North. After the Compromise of 1850, Northern citizens were federally required to aid Southern slave catchers repossess runaway slaves. At the same time, with the publishing of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, many in the North now had to deal with slavery firsthand. The spark that ignited this powder keg was the election of Lincoln as president as he was purely a regional president in that he won no Southern states-- in many he wasn't even placed on the ballot. Yes, he didn't not fight for the abolishment of slavery, but he did seek to maintain the Union.

Yet another homework question calling for analysis. Research the answer and do it yourself. Do not always rely on others to do your work. Handing in their answers as though they were your own is called cheating.
