Due to changes made in our nations security level, based from the offices of our own President Bush & the HomeLand Security Department, all communications throughout the nation, & through out the world for that matter, are constantly being monitored; and if you are caught speaking out against President Bush or against the war in Iraq, you may b e labelled as a terrorist & have all of your possessions siezed & be locked up for any undeterinate amount of time! What has occurred to the Right of Freedom of Speech?

Yes. A recently signed Executive Order effectively give the President the power to minimize or eliminate rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Somebody please get a backbone and help us get our country back from this guy.

Remember what Ben Franklin said "Those who would give up a little freedom for a little security deserves neither freedom nor security".
I have continually badgered to the point of being a pest my reps to do something. They can't act alone. They are only 3 people. If we all do this that will make a bigger impact. We can take our country back but it will take work.
Talk to friends and neighbors. Get them to write too. We must take back our country. We must punish the GOP next year for allowing such people to be in their party.

The point isn't that the government is likely to seize assets of any one ordinary person using their right to free speech to speak out against the Bush Admin or the Iraq war...the point is that as of July 17th.......according to the Presidents executive order, they could. On July 16th, the Constitution protected you...on July 17th it doesn't. For those Reps out there supporting the Prez and the war...how's this gonna sit with you when it's a Dem Prez doing something you don't like.....gun laws, abortion, taxes, etc., etc. etc.

Bush uses the Constitution as toilet paper apparently. Last I checked we as a nation were encouraged by our Fouding Fathers to protest the leaders elected into office. But lately some people in office don't seem to think so. Maybe they skipped that part of history class.

I am aware that this is possible, but i consider myself to be a Patriotic American so i will not desist from speaking out. Oh and get this i mention the Constitution quite often.... utoh, am i a terrorist?
Candy Cane- instead of reading Yahoo Answers,.... READ THE LEGISLATION THAT HAS BEEN PASSED SINCE 9-11. Many will mention the Patriot Act. It has been used to abuse our Constitutional rights, but there have been many other little bits of legislation passed under the radar that are quite disconcerting. Inform yourself.
Volleyball.... excuse me??? Our rights SHOULD be limited to hunt terrorists? You frightened little sheep you. If i dont agree with my rights being abused i must be a terrorist? YOU my friend are whats wrong with our nation. See you on the battlefield.

i think you are taking that a little to far and a little out of context. because although i cant see why anyone would but if you disagree with President Bush then you can and have the right to speak out against it. i would have to see that "NEW RULE" in writing somewhere official before i just believe a broad statement like that. I choose not to get the official pass down on new laws from yahoo answers

Sometimes rights are limited so that a nation can become more secure. We have freedom of speech. You are exercising that right here! I don't know where you got your info., but if any part is true, you missed the point. Your freedoms can and should be limited for a short period of time in order to secure our safety. Why would it bother you if you weren't a terrorist yourself?

What has occurred to the Right of Freedom of Speech?
it's still in tact (as you just pointed out)
I think you meant to say, What has occurred to our basic civil rights?
G W Bush and the unholy alliance of big business and Christian conservatism don't want you to have them

Well, basically nothing - what we have is America involved in a war. When that happens, if a person challenges the politics of the USA then they are committing treason - they can and will arrest one for that and treason - if one is found guilty is punishable by death!
