More moisture content make a cloud look grey.Moisture absorbs some of the light rays and only remaining rays are reflcted back or refracted. So they are grey in colour.A white cloud contain less moisture and reflect the lights rays without absorption.Hence they are white. This can be noticed in the case of high clouds like cirrus, cirrostratus and cirrocumulus (which form at a height above 8 to 9 Km)which always look white due to less content of moisture. At that height, the temperature is low and hence the air can contain only small amount of moisture.

A cloud is mainly a parcel of air that holds a lot of very tiny droplets of water that is just suspended in the air. These droplets are so small that they do not fall until they get to be thrown together and combine a heavier drop. During fair weather, what we see is small white cumulus clouds, it does not hold so much water so there is not much to stop sunlight from passing through them and making them look white, while grey clouds holds a lot of water that it blocks or absorbs the sunlight that strikes on them. They also tend to cover the sky, so there is very little chance for sunlight to be reflected off the sides of them.

Clouds are made up of droplets of condensed water vapor, which are colorless, but which like snowflakes, reflect the white light of the sun in all directions, and so appear white. Sometimes, though, especially when the clouds are quite dense (like thunderheads) or thick, some of the light is absorbed or blocked before it can reach the surface, which darkens the white color to a grey.
Particulate pollutants may also be a factor in darkening clouds if you live in a polluted area, because those particles are colored.
(sorry for appearing to repeat ppl - I lost the connection halfway thru the answer)

Clouds can be all different colours.
When they're grey it's usually due to the fact that light that's reflected doesn't go all the way through the cloud, making it more dark.
When they're white, the light is shining all the way through, especially above water..because the clouds are relfecting the light off of the water, making it more of a white colour.
That's why when it's darker, and it starts raining you'll see darker clouds, due to lack of light.
Hope that helps!

Clouds are grey because of the amount of water in them. The greyer the cloud, the more water that is in the cloud, the more likely that it is going to precipitate.

clouds are fill with water vapour.
when the clouds are grey that means the vapour is turning back to water which then it rains.

the clouds color depends on the way the sunlight is hitting and reflecting on it. clouds are water vapor and they can vary in color the way the sun hits it. remember water vapor is really colorlessbut light makes it show

think its just the amount of water? lots means it gets dark and heavy and not as much light can pass through
thats bit of a logical guess
