tell you're sis to take responsibility for her own actions, she took them off, she should have at least some of the blame, who takes off $8,000 earings and doesn't keep track of them?

There are some questions she needs to ask first.
1) Did he take them off of her ears?
2) Was he aware that she had left them there and thus acknowledged that?
3) Was he the one who made notice that they were there and offered to put them aside until she came to get them and then they became missing, which would mean he is responsible?
4) After he was made aware they were there did he see them, acknowledge that to her and put them aside for her to pick up at a set time?

If the answer is no, then it's her loss. And the responsibility to replace them is not his morally either. Because if he never took ownership of saying he saw them and knew where they were, how is he at fault? He probably felt sorry for her and made the offer to pay, but after he thought about it realized that's $8,000. It's a nice jester, but he's not obligated.

Those must be some real nice studs and a little gaudy I may add. If they were so expensive why did she leave them laying around? Were they insured? Are there pictures? Receipts? He may not have to replace them.

He has no legal obligation to replace them. Morals don't much matter.

Invest in cubic zirconia. Its pretty irresponsible to let $8000 diamond jewelry out of your sight.

Talk to a lawyer..but don't expect to get them back.

Who walks around with $8,000 in their ears?? And then "leaves" them at somebody's house??

Sorry, HER responsibility.

if she thinks that he stole them she could report it -- otherwise, it may not even be his fault so why should he pay? she should have had insurance on them!
