I am reminded of the fact that laws are one set of rules, morals are a different set of rules, ethics are yet a different set of rules -- and they often disagree.

I like what the Apostle Paul said: All things are lawful but not all things are expedient" although maybe out of context for this question, the legal aspect, from my point of view is for the good of the people in regards to personal safety, protection and privacy. The moral aspect deals with issues that are not legislated by law per say but more out of conscience. For example, it legal for a single woman of 21 to go have a drink in a bar but the moral aspect of that would be no because she is sending a message. As for the ethical part, IMHO, you can have ethics without morals but one cannot have morals without ethics.

Adultery, segregation, slavery, smoking (18+), drinking (21+), abortion, and teenagers that drive.

Not saying I agree or disagree with any of them, but that's what comes to mind. Fairly controversial issues I think. Well, some anyway.

That, and the saying "just because everyone does it doesn't make it right".

It's legal to kill someone in Florida who is in your home without your permission but it's not right. Especially when the person is there because they are confused about the home or because of a mistake.

That's the problem with 'shoot first' laws.

Just because its "legal" does not mean its wrong; or just because its "illegal" does not mean its wrong.

For example you could say that something is "legal" but still not right; or you could say something is illegal but still not wrong - the later of which I disagree with.

Stoning women accused of adultery in Iran. Perfectly legal there, yet I highly doubt it's right :)
