I agree with Thea....I have 4 aquatic turtles... now when kept in captivity..they do not need to hibernate. I am assuming the same would be true for a tortoise if kept inside!
My turtles stay inside the house all the time in their habitat
If this tort has been raised in captivity and has never hibernated. I would say No don;t do it!!

Yes, they have to.
Hibernation is a critical period of the life of a tortoise. While hibernating, tortoises accumulate toxins (because they do not urinate). For that reason, they should not hibernate for more than 3 months a year, which is what wild ones do in the mediterranean areas. In the UK, hibernation need to be organised and planned properly. If you leave the tortoise in the garden, she will hibernate for much longer than 3 months and will not reach her life span potential.
Many tortoise owners will disagree and say their tortoise is doing fine despite being 30, 40 years old. Be aware that in the right conditions, this is young and a tortoise should leave a lot longer.
My advise is to consult a reptile specialist and organise carefully the hibernation period. Advises will depend on your circumstances and habitat.

It's really astounding just how many people answered yes to that question without having any idea what species you were asking about.
Not only do some species not hibernate but attempting to hibernate them will most likely kill them. Your leopard is one of those species. They do not hibernate.

tortoises only need to hibernate to condition them for breeding. if you are not going to breed them there is not need to hiberanate them.
